Hello collectors, newbie here.

Want to sell my 1925 Savage model 99 TD rifle in 30-30 caliber. This rifle has perfect bore and is extremely accurate with its Buckhorn sights.

This rifle was once lettered by its serial number and was sold to a Hardware store in Sacramento CA in 1925.

I had it restored to like new conditon 15 years ago.

Barrel of course is take-down that unscrews from frame, has window cartridge counter on side of frame, case coloring on the lever...a really pretty and fast handling rifle if one were hunting with it. This is the way they use to make them.

$675 will ship to your FFL, 3 day inspection privilege.

Thanks, 44and45

Based on my experience with this forum, "restored to like new condition" and "collectors" are not compatible terms, but good luck! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

A gun collector is a gun collector, I've been collecting all kinds of guns for over 50 years.

I think I've been pretty honest stating the condition of my rifle forsale. By stating such it is not a safe queen that never gets any use and is only purchased for someone to admire...therefore, such a collector is one who only admires guns and doesn't really use them.

I think I was offering this as a collector item of rare quality as they are extremely difficult to find anymore, and a great firearm for the deer hunter.

As to good luck, there is no such thing in firearms collecting, there are only good and bad deals. I'm offering a quality deal with a 3 day inspection privilege. I didn't offer a safe queen.

Don't take it to heart 44-45. I think what fin2feather was trying to point out is that most savage 99 collecters would rather have a piece in factory condition rather than a restored rifle.

Myself personally I appreciate 99's the way they were, regardless of the condition, to a point. I'm not gonna buy a rare 99 if it's a piece of junk. I'm sure your gun is a fine looking piece but some of us would rather it be original.

I'm sure no one here was trying to start a flame with you!!!

Probably ought to post this in the classifieds instead. The collectors forum is bound to pick apart anything that doesn't fit into collector criteria.

No one is picking it apart yet. Simply stating the majority preference on this board for unaltered examples and advising the seller that he may have a better chance of selling his altered firearm else where. That would seem more like helpful advise than criticism if it were me and I was offering something for sale in less than the best market for the item. The seller is also stating that he is selling it as a shooter which indicates that he is well aware of the preference many have for unaltered examples and the preference some have for owning a good looking, even though altered, example to actually use. As has been said before on this board, "the rifle is what it is" and if he chooses to try to sell it here I wish him luck, even though I feel the free classifieds would be a more appropriate place than a discussion board.

44 and 45: I certainly wasn't trying to flame you. I agree that you were being honest about your gun. I'm a shooter, not really a collector, and I monitor this board mostly for the wealth of info that's to be had here. I was just trying to pass on my experiences to you since you said you were new to the board. Sorry that I offended you.

44and45,

Put your rifle on one of the auction sites (AA or GB), gunsamerica.com, or the gunlist that way the true market will decide what it is worth. I understand why you came here to post, but from my experience you're probably better off going that route.

I sold most if not all of my savage 1899/99 rifles and most of upgrade sights (but kept the good shooters, a 22 HP and 1916 250-3000) through other venues and they brought my asking prices.

You may also want to put it in the classified sections at accuratereloading.com and huntamerica.com, sometimes savage 1899/99 fans shows up there also.

Sounds like a nice rifle, good luck, keep your head up, and be patient someone will come along, it's all about timing and having your spot in the right market at the right time.

TxT

OK, guys. Tried to edit out and delete my rifle ad on this forum but the edit controls won't let me edit.

So, unless one of the moderators delete it for me we are stuck with it being on this thread apparently ticking a few purist off.

BTW, why not look up the word collector in the dictionary.

Your getting a little to defensive over nothing. Chill buuddddyyy. Anyone that owns a 99 is good in my books, regardless if it's been cleaned up, your still a 99 lover!!!
