I'm looking closely at the DNZ one piece mount and bottom half of rings. Just three pieces (not counting screws) They have the same general idea as Talley but in a one piece mount. I'll be mounting a 1-4x Leupold to my M-1895 chambered in 45/70. I've got few other Marlins with the old Weaver one piece base and the rings with the screws only on one side. I generally have nightmares for 3 to 4 nights after fighting to get the reticle straight when using those old style(original maybe?) Weaver rings. Any suggestions? I do have a set of Talley's on another Marlin but I don't get as much spacing as I can with other bases plus I hate toting a rifle with the Talleys because the sharp corners on them if your carrying with your hand cradling the receiver from the underside.
I've contacted Talley a couple times about rounding the corners off a little but never received any response. Maybe it would be too much trouble. I don't know.
Thanks for any suggestions!

I like......

Weaver or Leo base....

Dovetail turn in style Burris Signature rings

These insert rings will grip scope & not allow scope to slip

I have Talley Lwt. 2 piece on a couple of my Marlins. I like them, they are low, simple and uncluttered. They work well for me.

I used Leupold rings and one piece base on my 1895 45/70. Scope is a Leupold VX-1 2-7 x 33.

If I was going to scope a rifle like you are talking about I would get a peep sight from Skinner Sights that sits on the receiver. It has cut outs machined into it that accept medium height Talley QD rings. About as close as you can come to having the best of both worlds. If you want to use the peep sight just remove scope and put in your pack.

I would call them for advice.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like I got one thinking to do!

I've had great experiences with Warne Maxima bases and Quick Detachable rings. My 336 in .30-30.

I use them on my 1895 .45-70 as well. Here is it with 30mm rings.

These rings allow you the option of using your iron sights. You'll get your zero back when you put them back on. And they will retain your scope under the hardest recoil.

The base is held on with four screws. All screws, bases and rings, are torqued to 25 ft/lbs.

I got a picatinny rail, from Midway. Beats the basic Weaver base which only offers two places to mount a scope, which results in the scope being too far back. Just my opinion of course. Then you can use good Warne rings, that you can remove the scope with. I like the lower end scope. Leupold 1-4 and Leupold 1.5-5. They both work pretty well.

I still like Weaver lows. I haven't found anything else that gets a scope as low.

DNZ is where it's at for Marlins if they offer the height your looking for in the tube size you're planning on mounting. That or Conetrol

Everyone has their favorite stuff. Mine is the Weaver base and Weaver Top Mount rings. YMMV.

I had Warne steel rings & bases on my Marlin Guide Gun 45-70. Never had a problem with them.
When I had a scope on my 336 I used a Weaver base and rings. Solid enough for 30-30 recoil.

I like Weaver Pivot bases with low rings on my 336's and 760's when they can be found.
Fortunately, I have a pretty decent supply of them.
