I'm interested in hearing from those that have tried the Barnes 175 LRX in the 300 WSM. So far I've worked with R 17 (64.3grs. and 2980 fps). Not great accuracy, so far.

I haven’t tried the LRX in the WSM yet. Still using the 165 TSX. Why change a good thing, right? I will say though that I have yet to get any kind of good accuracy with the RL-17 in my 300 WSM and had some weird pressure signs at well below max.

Good Luck with it Ken...thought about maybe RL 26?

I also played with a lb of '17 in the .300wsm

All the rumors proved true, higher velocity but very average accuracy.

Done with '17

However, IMHO, I find Barnes bullets to be best on Game, so-so on paper...

RL19 and H4350 in mine with a slight accuracy advantage to RL19.

R16 is a good substitute for R17. Similar loads and velocities with out the drama and temperature sensitivity. In my 270 WSM R26 works well but for the 300 I would try R23 first as it shares the good manners or R16.

Rl 23 has been great with 180 accubonds for me. Beat rl 16 and H4350 for accuracy. Should work well with the 175s as well. H4350 was best with 168ttsx, but only mild loads.

The load I worked up to was 64grains of H4350 and it was awe inspiring in velocity, to say the least. It shot sub moa out to 400 yards, but damn if it were not pretty slow (2820 fps avg). In the past, I've had excellent results with H4350. It was always my go to powder in the WSM. I do not see H4350 listed in the manual, but IMR4350 is listed. Maybe Barnes saw the same mundane velocity results I saw, so they used IMR4350 instead with better results. That will be the next powder I try, since I have a lot on hand. The Barnes manual lists a max of 65.5 grains of IMR4350 at a velocity of 3,003 with the 180gr TSX and MRX. I could live with that kind of velocity in a 300 magnum. My 300WBY avg's 3,130 fps with the 175 LRX and shoots quite accurately:

Better than the Tikka 300WSM/175 LRX. Hopefully by switching powder, we can remedy that while also bumping up the velocity on the shorty.... Nows the time of the year to start in with load development...

I was using 69.0gr RL19 with my 300 wsm load work for awhile with the 180 federal I was getting 2962, 180 ttsx I was getting 2855, 180 hornady I was getting 2922. The accuracy wasn’t there with RL19, so tried Barnes data for Imr 4350 with 180 ttsx I was getting 3081 but accuracy want their. But I suspected my mag box was binding up the action so took it to a belt sander and the whacky groups disappeared. . But the groups were not what I wanted. Anyhow I ended up using H4831 with a 178gr Eld-X, I’m getting 2905 f.p.s with that load and it shoots pretty good. Only done 3 shot group even summers get warm up here so I don’t mess with 5 shot groups in the summer. I do need to take it out this winter shoot a 5 shot group.

Good info buddy. You should try some 175 LRX and let us know how she does. There's a big difference between the Hornady 175 ELDx and the 175 LRX. I'd be curious to see if you can get the LRX bullet shooting good in your rifle. I'm getting 3/4 moa with mine, but velocity was not what I wanted. I Might as well be using that bullet in a 30-06 with the speeds I was getting. The pre 64 300wby is a different story all together.

178 eld-x will do everything I need it to do up here for moose and caribou. I used the 300 wsm for my moose rifle this yr. I did take my 300 weatherby out a couple times as well.

This was a 5 shot group I did with my 300 weatherby using H4831 I’m getting 3093 with this load.

Very nice. Looks like you got that 300wby dialed right in... I've always been a big fan of that 300 magnum. Roy did that one right. I much prefer it over the stubby necked wm...

Yeah I said ph uck it and stopped with those 180 hornady as you call them poor mans partitions. I have groups with my 300 wsm just need to find the targets. I knew where a express stainless classic was at it was an abortion rebarrel in a hogue stock but priced cheap $600. I had grand idea making a 300 H&H on it but realized I have a 30-06-3 of them lol..

Ha ha. Those interlocks are good bullets. Ive used them many times. They dont hold together as well as the partitions, but they hold together enough to get the job done. Since this is a 300WSM thread, ill add that one of my furthest shots was with a 300WSM and 165gr hornady btsp interlocks. 600 yards on a mulie buck. 1 shot and dropped on the spot. However, the 175LRX is intriguing to me. Ill keep following this thread and probably add to it, as soon as I load more up for my Tikka deluxe. In the Oregon hunting synopsis they are hinting around about using solid copper bullets. I hope they dont put restrictions on us like they do in ca, but youve lived here and you know how these idiots are. By the way, having 3 30-06 rifles is not a bad thing.
