Whitworth Mauser mannlicher stocked 7x57 with Leupold VXIII 1.5-5x, backed up by a Colt Coltsman L579 in 308 with a VX-2 3-9x40. Neither has seen daylight this season due to work.

Imo, the choice of rifle is more important than caliber. A good rifle that you like and fits you in anyone of numerous calibers will serve well. I found a used CZ 550 I loved. It happened to be in .308 but if it was 270, 30/06, 6.5 or .243 I'd have bought it just the same.

Tomorrow is our rifle opener and I'll be carrying the Winchester 94 NRA Centennial in 30-30 that my Uncle Hank left me, in his memory. It's the first time in 45 years I won't be hunting with him.

I killed deer with a .280 Rem with a 150 gr. Rem Corelokt and a 6.5 Swede with a 139 Gr. Hornady ELD-X . Results were the same.

Its not gay if your 270 was free.
Thats called "thrifty". Most thrifty folks don't spend $28 dollars for socks.

Traveling to hunt whitetails this year. Season (for me) starts Sunday with a borrowed .308W, Ruger UL tanger. Or maybe a .243.

Usually a 280 or 300 win till I quit buck hunting. Then I switch to a 243, 223 or my Grandpa's 107 year old Winchester 32 special to do the doe killing. My eyes are getting to where I have problems neck or head shooting does using open sights and I refuse to body shoot a doe that I plan to eat. Even a 10mm pistol will kill a doe when shot in the head or neck.

The Shamanic Deer BatteryHere are all the deer rifles used by the Shamanic Dream Team. You'll see we're heavy on 30-somethings-- mostly 30-06.

I dunno until I wake up. Might be a .224, or... .25/.28/.30/.38/.40/.45/.50/.56/.73 I think that was a Johnny Cash song. Lol This year my weapon of choice is a Ruger Merkin in 6.5 Missmore. My wife is toting a Mossberg Trailerpark in 243. #elite
