Went to the range and shot my 1964 336 in 44 rem mag. Used 4 different ammo all shot the same impact at 60 yards. Punched the center out of target with factory ammo. Best was hornady 225 grains. Those shot on top of one another

Not too many 336----44 mags out there...kind of an odd duck

How does it feed & function ? Seems those issues lead to it going into the 1894 action

This week too...I warmed up some of my 1894's in 357..44 & 45 Colt

Bumping steel targets with cast boolits......Trailboss & Titegroup loads

Congrats! I'd love to have such 336 Model in 44 Mag! They were only made a couple of years to recollection. About same era as my own low production 336 in .219 Zipper . An era as Marlin seemed to be testing wings in new chamberings. I've also heard of feeding issues with the 44 Mag. But credibility? Handloading can be one source versus factory ammo! I suspect it was more the fact of factually slow sales that ended production. The 336 is a bit big/bulky in handgun chambering!

Some long time ago, I had a choice between the Marlin '94, "pre-safety" in either 44 Mag or 357 Mag. Chose the latter as .38 Spl ammo more available & less expensive. Standing by that choice today! What I term "historic Marlins" - as yours, quality guns!

I see this comment about the Marlin 336 in 44 Mag having feeding issues just about every time the model is mentioned. I've owned one since 1967 and another since 2005. There are two others in the immediate family. None have ever had any feeding issues. Cast bullets, jacketed bullets, or reloads of both kinds, all seem to work just fine. Only thing I can guess is that Marlin had trouble getting the 336 to feed the 44 mag during their product development stage and the rumor has stuck. The ones I have and know about are slick as a ribbon, so I have always assumed that Marlin got the issues with feeding worked out.

The 336 is a big, long action for the 44 mag and I always assumed that was the reason that they resurrected their 1894 action for the 44 mag. Not because there were problems with the 336 action. I've owned one of those 1894 Marlins too, and wish I still had it...
