Most of the time when reloading for rifle I just weigh the charge since I only load a handful at at a time and it's not worth using a measure. A few months back I used my measure (Belding & Mull) to load up a full box. I was shooting for 45 grains and put 10 charges in the pan until 450 grains was met, actually 449.8 grains. This morning I was loading some more with the measure set at what should have been 45 grains but the scales (always zeroed) showed .6 grain light. In times past I've noticed a tenth or so off but, never this much. I had to recalibrate my measure for the correct amount. Is this a common occurrence?

If it's a balance scale, possibly dirty pivots. If it's a digital scale, possibly error from temperature differences. Also, if the powder was left out, possibly a difference in the moisture content of the powder. Lots of possibilities.

Had the measure been adjusted to other settings in the mean time? If so, have you checked out its repeatability?

denton, Yes it is a balance scale an Ohaus. I will give it a cleaning. I never leave powder left out but, always sealed in container.

mathman, Yes, I had adjusted it last week for a big load and the adjustment slide almost came out of the tube. Haven't checked repeatability.
