Wabi
If a fellow was going to buy one of those to butcher, ballpark what would it cost?

Yeah Richard, how is the fat market right now?

How many head on that load?

Around 40?

We get 40-44 pair out on one load in the spring time.

Guessing those big steers would be about the same.

I lost the net for a while men.

About 110 dollars a hundred is the market. Say a 1500 pound steer, 1650$. The last beef we had butchered cost say?, $750 a half.

Figure a dressing % of 64% do the math on what you take home.

On the truck load, I think 37 head. Jake is the brains of the outfit, I just try to stay out of the way! laugh

Sam, it would be a pleasure to feed out some of your calves.

Richard, you mentioned in a post about cattle buyer price fixing...

What's up with that?

Barry, back when, feed salesmen, and cattle buyers were common around here. Mind you, I'm talking the late 60's, and early 70's.

The buyers would stop and talk on the gravel road intersections. When I accused George Fulcher, a buyer for Spencer Pack, of fixing prices, George said, No! We're talking about whisky, and women, things like that. laugh

Thanks for the answer Wabi. On the percentage the 64 percent was meat right?

If you get 50% boneless meat from a live steer, you are doing great.
If it's decently fattened, you get less.
Big boned animal or any other issues, less.

64% was hanging minus head, hide, feet, guts.
