Trying to get the picture thing figured out. Anyways first deer with a recurve I scored off the classifieds this fall.

Very nice! are you hooked now? I've been shooting one for 20 years and I don't think I could ever go back to anything but Trad.

I've shot traditional since I was a kid in the mid 60s. Tried a compound for 2 years in the early 1980s and HATED the dam_ thing. It had no soul. Now shooting a 3 piece Palmer takedown recurve and a late 60s vintage Groves Spitfire, both #50 at 28". There's nothing like shooting traditional and "the mystical flight of the arrow" to quote Ted Nugent.

I am hooked bad! I find myself going to the back yard to shoot a couple of arrows and the next thing I know, a hour has passed and the wife is asking if I will be in before it’s dark. It’s really put the fun back in archery for me.

Would you mind to tell us some more about the equipment you used to bag that doe?

Something to dream about in Germany because hunting with the bow and arrow is unlawful over here. Personally I am in archery since 1978 with some intermittences. And always used trad bow equipment except the arrows. XX75 was always my choice.
When I started with archery in '78 recurve bow made by Bear archery were cheap because in the US the compound hype had just started and was about to also swep our country but first Bear Super Kodiaks, Grizzlies, Kodiak Magnums and Kodiak Hunters had to be sold for just 199 Deutsch Marks and later for 99 and finally for 49 Deutsch Marks.

My apologies for lack of information on the set up. The bow is a Bob Lee Signature Elite 55# @ 28”. I am shooting a carbon express arrow at 452gr with a 2 blade broadhead. The arrows I had on hand and didn’t get the bow till the first week of September. I didn’t plan to hunt with it this season. I started shooting in the back yard every night and was shocked how quickly my confidence increased. A friend gifted me the broadheads, not sure the maker, I will find out. In the yard to was confident to 25 yards. I decided to take it hunting with a max range of 15 yards. I shot both deer at 12 yards. First deer the arrow penetrated to the fletchings, not 100% I made it to full draw, “doe fever”. Second one the arrow fell out after the first step she took. Next season I plan to increase my arrow weight and may try a broadhead with bleeder blades. The other change will be my trees stands, they are set at 18 to 20’ high. I will lower them to 12 to 15’ for the recurve. Thinking being, less of a shot angle is better with less energy.

I run about the same setup, and yeah, like my stands a little lower.
15-17ft is about it.

I would concur with the bleeder blades. They do tend to help with the blood trails in my opinion. As for energy, A good, razor sharp cut on contact broadhead will easily go through a whitetail with your current setup if you don't hit a major bone like the shoulder. I've had many complete pass threws with the old Bear broadheads(with bleeders) and cedar arrows from bows as low as 42 lbs. Don't over think it.

Used bear razorheads several times even on elk. Actually got a pass through on a bull many years ago with just the 2 blades with a 60 lb. American recurve.

Got a longbow in the basement. If my shoulder is up to it, may need to drag it out. Its gonna take a really big backstop for a while.

Nice shot placement on that doe. Bet that was a short bloodtrail.
