Well, seeing as how Thanksgiving is tomorrow, I thought I would see what everyone's favorite way of preparing and cooking prime rib was.

We almost always do prime rib for our holiday meals and have tried a number of different rubs and methods. I usually just wing it and use coarse salt, pepper, some rosemary and thyme. Whatever else I dig out of the spice shelf that looks good. I have experimented many times over the years trying to create a coating to produce a crust on the roast, but have never gotten it the way I really would like.

What are you "recipe" go-tos for prime rib?

Salt, white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder. I do reverse sear, in oven at 200 degrees until 115 temp. take out of the oven and raise temp to 500 back in for about 10 minutes to brown/crust up

I’ve seen a couple covered in rock salt and placed into a screaming hot oven. Buddy sprayed w beef broth and then kosher salt. Then began spraying and covering in a tray of rock salt until coating was greater than half inch. I don’t know the timings but oven was only on for the first segment and then turned off and let the heat and the scorching rock salt do the deal. After beef had rested he lightly beat it w rolling pin and salt blanket fell away. It was insanely good.

Kosher salt and fresh ground pepper. Wood or charcoal grill. I like it served with some horseradish and sour cream.
