Hey all,

I did some gunsmithing work for a friend and part of the payment was a rifle. It's a .257 Improved (not sure if it's RCBS or AI), and appears to be well made. Made on a German Mauser (not sure which one, but there are Waffenampt stamps). Bolt turned down, Timney trigger, Buehller safety and one piece base/scope mount, and well stocked in a Fajen stock. Problem is, the LOP is a bit short, but if I add a slip on recoil pad, I can make it work. It has an old Weaver Marksman 4x scope with plain crosshair.

I'm not sure what I'll do with this rifle yet. It's kinda cool, and given the care in it's making, I'm betting it shoots pretty fair also; but that remains to be seen.

I'd take that over any of the current crop of plastic fantastics.

Just scored a semi-inlet rough shaped stock. I think I'll go English style with this one.

Yeah, you and me both. Went to one of the big box stores and walked the rifle isle...I'll bet they had a hundred in there, and NOT ONE drew my attention. Everything was stainless/synthetic or Cerakote/synthetic. No deep polish bluing or smoke & honey walnut.

Maybe add length with spacers first to see if it shoots.. MB

Or, you could always sell or trade it to someone with kids who need a slightly shorter LOP and less recoil....dang, I happen to have two daughters...lol....nice rifle and great caliber.

I'd first shim the LOP and once it fits, work up a nice load for it. But muy coolio.
