Anybody got an opinion on the best gun shops in Kerrville/Fredericksburg TX area?

Interested in 20th Century hunting rifles, shotguns and S&W revolvers.

Thanks, Slim. I'll hit both of those.

And the Old German Bakery & Restaurant, too!

Alas, I am still too poor to darken the door of J.E. Cauthen & Sons.

too poor is a phrase I can relate too.

Old German Bakery is Breakfast.

You won't get lucky but a gun show in Fredericksburg is always worth a walk through. There is always something z bit different there. Often more than one.

Brazos, the National Museum of the Pacific War is on the same block as the Admiral Nimitz Gallery, which is a small museum in its own right.

Check out Gibsons in Kerreville. This is an old time chain discount store that has largely disappeared. It has the feel of a 1950-60s hardware store. I bought a nice Kahles scope there for $300 so sometimes bargains are available.

The brew pub in Fredericksburg has decent food and good beer. My favorite place is the Hill Top Diner a few miles to the east of Fredericksburg, if you go for Sunday brunch make a reservation.. Ottos right behind the Nimitz Museum is very good and next store is Fat Boys with pretty good tacos.

San Antonio is a mecca for Gun Shops with Dury's, Topperweins and many others.

If you do the Fredericksburg to San Antonio route look up Josie's Kitchen in Blanco a hidden four star restaurant. There is the Redbud Cafe and Uptown Blanco too which are both good. Go the country route from Luckenbach to Alfred both great dance halls and beer joints.

Wear your FN mask too as we have had a huge spike in Covid-19 cases recently.

I second Gibson’s in Kerrville. Love that store. My favorite restaurant in Fredericksburg is Friedhelms Bavarian Inn. Second is the Hill Top Cafe on the Mason Highway.

You should go by. I did and first told the salesman that I was a firearms enthusiast but not wealthy enough to be a prospective customer. I asked if it was OK to just look around.

He said "Looking doesn't cost anything. If you desire to handle any of the guns, please treat them like you intend to purchase them". He then spent a lot of time "Talking guns" with me. They had Tom Horn's revolver and he showed me the paperwork documenting it.

All in all, a very pleasant experience with a very nice salesman. If I ever hit it big, I'll go back and buy something!

FYI, I had a similar experience in Holland and Holland and the Beretta store in NYC.

Never hurts to ask!

Tejano, thanks for the tips about San Antonio. It's not far from where I'll be.

Hope a lot of these restaurants you fellas are mentioning are open, but I'll eat in my truck in the parking lot if need be. I've been doing a lot of that lately.

About the only time I get to Fritztown anymore is to drop stock off at the auction barn. Pretty touristy

I head there every couple of months to hit a classic car dealership. A nice loop from here with cars, guns and music (Luckenbach)...

Most restaurants are open for limited seating, like every other table. Most also have curbside. In Fredericksburg I do curbside and eat in the plaza. This or I look for restaurants with outside seating.

This is pecan season so I am going there tomorrow to stock up.

Gibson’s in Kerrville!

Alamo Springs Cafe, 9 miles south of F’burg on FM 473, a better burger you will not find. Eating in F’burg is best left to Whataburger otherwise. The town is a tourist trap. The good gun stores in Kerrville closed.

Sorry to hear that. Is it temporary? Which ones?
