A buddy has a Ruger 77 22, 22lr, boat paddle with a Green Mountain sporter weight,fluted barrel.
He shoots maybe a box a year and isn't a loony.
He's really wishing he had my Remington 582 with the tube magazine.
I'm not emotionally attached to the Rem. but I got it for cheap and it replaced one I sold years ago.
I shoot a brick a year +/- in this rifle.

I had a 77 17 laminate but not a 77 22.

Should I swap? Are the values comparable?

Ruger will bring more $ in my opinion if you want to sell. My 582 is very accurate and they are getting harder to find. Do what you want but the Ruger will bring the most $'s. If he's a good friend take his gun out and shoot it. Then make up your mind.

In a heartbeat.

I have a 581 I got for Christmas in 1967. Good rifle, but they are cheaply made, other than the nifty little action. Mine is an heirloom, yours ain’t. Do it, but be prepared for your friend to regret his idea.

I know where you can get a really nice Remington 582 for $250 if you'd want to trade your current 582 for the Ruger, which is what I would do, and replace it.

It's not a good deal money wise for him even though your 582 might be more accurate than the Ruger.

That deal is in your favor.

I would do it, and if you have any remorse I'll trade you my 582 for the Ruger.... 😁

If it were me, I would keep the 582 and try to buy the 77-22 from him outright and keep both. My son's 581 shots way more accurately than a cheap .22 has a right to and he would never forgive me for selling it- his first rifle... but they also make a great loaner rifle if you need to go that way...

He's talked to another guy and now is hesitating to swap ... Not a shock. I don't want to rip him off but..
The plan is to buy it outright as Sheister suggested, we';; see.

Kragman, you're all heart looking after me like that whistle

The Remington replaced one I regretted selling years ago. This one shoots too so I'll keep it and see about adding another to the assortment.

Thanks for the replies!
