Thanks TerryK for the Ruger. You guys note that TerryK is a real gentleman. I just loaded 18 rounds for a quick test. As my powder charger on the RL550B wasn't going down to 20 gr of H110 for my commercial cast 215 gr .41 bullets, I went with the RCBS and got to 19.4 gr. so stayed with that. I will shoot and see what the Lab Radar says. Be Well, RZ.

Years ago I used Blue Dot but that is now not recommended. I use 2400 now

Ha! I scored some 41 ammo at a place called Great Guns an LGS in Liberty MO. It is 50 of HSM 210 gr Hornady JHP XTP for $42.00. They didn't have the Cowboy loads but I would have purchased them for just getting used to the gun. They are good people at Great Guns. Now I feel better with some factory stuff to start out with. I love mine, an odd one a S&W 357PD. Not as nasty to shoot as the 329PD 44 Mag. Easy to load for, H110 for full house loads and even Unique works well for a reduced load.

Didn't know you were a fan Boatboy. I am always on the lookout for a model 357 S&W or maybe 325 in 45 Colt or ACP. It must be a scandium/lightweight though. I think it is a PD or Night Guard. I know they are 'spensive but if you want one.... Be Well, RZ.

For close target( 20 yards) loads i have used 12g blue dot for the last 35 years. Didnt know it was bad?

Yep, the "PD" nomenclature is the light weight scandium, titanium models. Other than 44 Mag they are rather rare to find.

Oh man find a Night Guard you will pay if you want to play I have had a few but not 41 But an interesting 41 I have is a Taurus TI in 41 It's quite a handful if you shoot full house loads your middle finger takes a beating I have no other gun that does this but this gun is VERY light Great sidearm or back pack gun Hank

Whats bad about blue dot?? Manufacturer Alliant put out a warning 20-30 years ago that Blue Dot could cause kabooms in the 41. No real reason to explain it. Use it or don’t is your choice.

Your load of H110/296 seems a touch low to me. I have used 296 for heavy bear stopping loads with 265 gr hard cast bullets, with 20.3 gr. It works fine in my Model 57s, certainly not too hot. H110/296 (same powder) does not like reduced charges.
I’ve been loading and shooting this cartridge for over 40 years, and my all time favorite powder is 2400 for 210 and 215 grain bullets. If you have some, you may want to try it.

I got away from those powders and went with accurate #9. Handles reduced loads very well also goes full bore with ease. 210-215 same powder. Although the old standbys of Red Dot and Unique also work very well.

Red Dot is mighty fast for anything but a very light load. Not really. Red Dot max runs about 1250 with a 210, Unique about 1320. Not much difference. Both are pleasurable to shoot.

You will like your new .41! I used my Blackhawk to kill one deer and one black bear. 210 gr. hornaday on top of 20 gr. H110. This has been a favorite caliber of mine for years. Within 25 to 30 yards it just plain works. I'm staying with H110, I have a good supply.
