A couple folks have asked about trades. I would rather sell this to make room but I guess I would consider trades.

Yeah- gave one to oldest grandson, very successful. Told him we could scope it- he said "What for?"

The H&R buffalo rifles came in 3 calibers. I have 3 in 45-70, 1 in 38-55, and and 1 in 45 Colt. All shoot well, particularly the 45-70s. You will read differing results on the 38-55 but I find the Corbon flat nose rounds to be damn accurate. We can use any of these in Louisiana during primitive season, but I find myself using one of the 45-70s year round.

These rifles are incredibly well balanced and a pleasure to shoot.

I shot for the H&R engineering dept. in 2008. They did a reintroduction of these guns that year. When we started getting the 38-55s returned for accuracy issues I was tasked to shoot them to try and find the problem.
The issue was not the rifle. The problem was the Winchester ammo that people, including us, were using. Some lots were being manufactured with under size bullets. Properly sized bullets shot extremely well, as good as the 45-70s did.

My initial reaction is "What a cool job" but I would think shooting all day long, every day would get old and start to take a toll on your body. I am more of a 100 rounds per YEAR guy with 75 of those being 22's shooting red squirrels off the bird feeder.

It was a cool job and I enjoyed it. The only time it was a little rough was if I was doing something like a 500 round torture test per gun of a battery of (5) 45-70s.
Nice thing was I had just retired from a state job and this was more about the fun than the money. I usually only worked about 30 hours a week.
