This, combined with other factors such as: super strong neck muscles, plates of spongey bone in the skull that act like a football helmet, and a very small amount of cerebrospinal fluid surrounding their brain, all help to stop a woodpecker scrambling its brain while pecking away with a force of over 1000g Wow. Back in the 70s, AL went to the three letter/three number tag numbering system used by many other states. It didn't stick and we eventually went back to another system, actually two other systems. But, during that period I was driving up the interstate and got behind an old 64 Chevy occupied by a very elderly gentleman and his wife. The tag number was "EAT 069". The license plate folks didn't catch it....or maybe they did and got a giggle out of it.
