pre 64 model 70 engraved bottom metalOk, enlighten me. I know where there is a beautiful pre 64 375H&H with better engraving on it than this. The guy is wanting $1,100.00 for it. Is there something special about this set that I'm not seeing?? I'm interested to see what this sells for. I'm half tempted to put my like new all original1958 fwt stock on ebay, since it appears all things pre 64 are selling like hot cakes...Thanks for looking..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

IMHO You would pay more for the engraving alone. ALso, $1100 for a pre 64 .375 is a bargain, don't pass it up!

Someone wants to embellish their gun.
+1 on the H&H, grab it.

That amount of engraving would cost well north of $2K from engravers capable of that quality of work. I paid $1K for half that amount of coverage nearly 25yrs. ago.

Just some thoughts... 1. If you're going to put a center-piece of fine European Baroque era furniture in a home featuring mid-century modern architecture, large sound of buzzer! An original Supergrade, equals net diminished value for such substitution. A nice Standard Model dramatically 'out of place'. "Form & Function; tilt rather than blending!" "Unmatched shoes!" 2. The written description including mention of corrosion, red flags & speaking of which... 3. Believe both Pennsylvania custom gunsmiths, Flaig's Lodge & Paul Jaeger, offered such pieces as aftermarket accessories. Not suggesting here, but some such are cast metal & "pointed up" by hand. Not claiming any expertise here.
Perhaps if you have a very nice, totally custom & fancy 'pre' Model 70, such to consider. Not for me in any case, but tastes do vary! Yet the bottom line on such a pricey chambered rifle as 375 H&H, "originality" or even "nearly"; such likely accounts for far more in collector tastes than "Gilding the Lily". ' "Tasteful & subtle..." That piece isn't!
I'd not need to pass, having never even considered it!
Just my take Best & Stay Safe! John
