I started trapping in the late 1970s and went through the haydays of fur and bought hundreds of traps thru the years. Dealers couldn't get them fast enuf. Millions of traps were sold through the years. Where did they all go.. Ray

Stolen as ^ ^ ^ said Many made into knickknacks and crafty decorations. I imagine a good many lost in flooded creeks and rivers I'd guess that many were set, then couldn't be found again. A neighbor lost several to being uprooted he said, but I still suspect they were pulled by some of the many trespassing dog hunters in this area. I think there are many boxes of traps sitting in out of the way barns and sheds where they were put years ago, and the owners got too old and sick to trap, or got discouraged by the low fur prices and found different interests. I imagine a good many went to scrap yards too.
Who knows what all. . .

Crooks........... I bought new traps one year and set them out. Next day they had stole 16 coons and traps. I always asked permission to trap. One field I always caught a few coon and some fox out of. The crook took 1 coon the first night and a fox the neext night and the 3rd night he took the torch to my trap and chain cutting them into little pieces. I went home , got the 338 mag and went to the local gas station where the farmers hang out for coffee and told them what happened. The guy that had given me permission said he knew who did it but his buddies wouldn't let him say who it was. I knew who did it. Word got out about it all and the stealing stopped. Lost about 30 traps and animals that year. Hard to feed a family like that. Ray
