Follow up to the pellet smoker thread from last weekend.
I have been doing a little research and Kamado Joe is getting good reviews.
Big Green Egg is well liked.
A member here recommended Golden's.
Any real difference in these things?
What size for 5-6 people?
Of course I will have to order sight unseen so no way to really compare.

Primo is the only one made in America.
At least out of the Joe, BGE, and the Primo.

That Golden was near an inch thick cast iron.
Beast!
After you pull the brisket, roll it into the shop and it’ll keep it warm in there all day!

Buy a Primos, made in Tucker, Ga. They actually bought the old BGE plant and use some if their old molds.

I went looking at the BGE and hell ya it was nice but the sticker shock was too much for me that day.
Then I spied a Broil King Keg at Home Depot I think it was. It appeared to be pretty much a knock off to the Egg and for less than half the price so I went for it. It rocks. But its the only one of this type I've been involved with so.... Lump coal a must.

Large size in a BGE or equivalent is what I’d do from a size perspective. Many years of use out of mine, honestly the best money I’ve ever spent on any kitchen item. They are that good.

Bought a Primo EX Oval over 10 years ago, couple back the firebox cracked, called them they asked for when I got it, they sent me a new one no cost as the bottom grate may have been a little big the year I got it. Great folks to deal with and American made.
Make some bad azzed pork and beef ribs, pork buts and brisket on it, not to mention box car loads of chickens and burgers.

Imitations made outta sheet steel ain't worth shat.
All the ceramics work the same way: air goes in the ass, comes outta the head.
They look big, but it's the diameter (and to a certain extent height, when you get the optional stacking rack).
Buy the biggest diameter and cheapest ceramic model you can buy, with one requirement:
It's all about draw and airflow, so the best air control, is a must.
Egg is status, KJoe is OK, Primo may have the best design, with the figure 8.

BGE and Primos are nice, have buds with each and they both love em. I went with a Weber Summit and added a BBQ Guru for set it and forget it cooks, can recommend without any reservations.
.... Never heard of Goldens' until just now, looked them up and the idea of a solid cast iron grill made it move a little...

I couldn't stomach the price of a BGE and snagged a Pit Boss at Costco a few years back. It's been great but is now too big as 2 of our three kids have moved out. $750 or so if memory serves and the size of the BGE XL.

I've had a Primo for 6-8 years. I love it. About 50 miles away from me picked it up at the factory.

Thanks for the info and advice. We never eat out so spending a little more on a grill is justified. And Flave says women can run one of these things.....! Just found this. https://komodokamado.com/

Sam, make sure you look at accessories as you will want to try different things. Just food for thought
