When the soviet union dissolved the "smart people" believed that the world would seek peace and harmony.
When people believed that the Clinton debacle was about sex rather than lying and disgracing the country.
9/11 resulting in the Patriot Act and 2 stupid protracted wars.
It all boils down to people letting politicians change the law and reelecting them based on party rather than proven beliefs and ideas.
VOTE OUT THE INCUMBENTS. QUESTION AUTHORITY.

What period of time? The nuclear age? Integration? Vietnam?
The Reagan years were still a great time to be an American... fall of the USSR. Even the Clinton years weren’t that bad.
My vote is Sept 11, 2001. Everything seemed to start on the wrong path after that. Lot of bad decisions made, seemingly out of emotion, but in hind sight, probably pre planned. The 2008 economic collapse put it into hyperdrive. 2016, was the best chance we had to turn it around. Looks like that chance is slipping away quickly now. Personally, I don’t see us lasting 4 years of a Biden administration.
Foreign policy will return to servicing global interests with no concern for American sovereignty or exceptionalism.
Reliance on foreign energy, surpassed in military strength by China and Russia, open borders and industry killing regulation and taxation.
No one will like my answer, but it happened when the sexual revolution became mainstream. That was the first fault in the dam leading to complete failure and catastrophe

I’d lean toward this just being a normal point in the endless cycle of humanity chasing its collective tail while repeatedly repeating our history. My thoughts exactly. It’s a cycle That I’m not sure can be broken. It’s like a mathematic formula. It can’t be deviated from.
