I never liked the Savage 99's looks so I missed a lot of good buys. Last year I had a chance to buy a 1952 model in 300 Savage. Man , is it smooth! Accuracy is not minute of angle (4" groups at 100 yards with a 4X scope), but I really like the rifle.

With modern CNC machinery, it should not be too expensive to get it back into production. Savage, are you listening?

djs, it should be shooting better than that if it's got a good bore and if you can do your part (I presume you can). Might try shooing it with the forearm off and the bottom of the receiver sitting on the rest. Sometimes too much pressure from the forearm can throw the accuracy off.

Welcome to the forum! Usually one rifle leads to an addiction, so good luck with that.

I would like buy EG ,1936-1939, .22 Sav., .250, and .303 before my death, but I don't think about it...

With modern CNC milling technologies, the Savage 99 could be re-introduced at a reasonable cost.

I have a 1899B in 25-35, mfg 1912, got it from my dad when he died, he had purchased from one of his uncles, beyond that who knows; it has what appears to be a leather butt "plate" in place of the original one
It hasn't been shot a whole lot since I used to deer hunt with it, but I know it shoots through the same hole with open sights at 25 yds

I'd really love a plain jane 99 chambered in 250 or 300 Savage. Straight grip stock and a schnabel forend. Even one of those is hard to find in east Tennessee...

I have wanted one for years and finally realized the dream. It is a .300 Savage, probably and early EG, in great shape for about a 70-year-old. Just need to get it out and shoot it. It has a new Marble peep and hope to bust some deer with it this fall.

Well, I'm new to the forum but I might as well chime in. I have 2 with another on the way. I don't know how to tell an A from an E or an XYZ but one is a non-tinkered with 300 takedown built around 1930. One is a .358 Timber Rifle. The recoil pad was hard as a brick so I changed it but I kept the old one. The one on the way is a 250-3000. I hope to have it in the safe next week.

The 300 is the one that got me interested in the Model 99s. A girl at my office got fired and called me begging me to buy some of her husband's guns. I agreed before I found out she was fired for stealing the boss blind while he was fighting a serious illness. I bought the 300 from her because it was a takedown rifle and had a tang sight. Shortly thereafter I hurt my back and didn't feel like toting a scoped rifle. I hunted with the old Savage and was hooked. As my back got better over the next few years it became my "office gun." I broke it down and stuck the two halves in the legs of a pair of old blue jeans and put it in the closet at work. (The boss is very cool with it). My hunting lease is 20 minutes from the office. On those days when the phone wouldn't let me get work done I'd grab the jeans ahd head for the woods.

I don't have a clue why I bought the 358 or the 250-3000. I guess that's part of the affliction. I'm thinking about a very gray one in 303 Savage at my local gun shop. They are asking $300. Who knows what I will do about that. Ammo won't be a problem since I roll my own. Guess I got off topic. Sorry about that!

Thanks! I'll figure out how to post pictures in a day or so. Two of them are in the back of the safe and its a chore to dig them out. Besides that, the wife knows about 2 of them so if she never sees more than 2 at one time... My count just went from 2 1/2 model 99s to 3 1/2. The latest one is an 1899 in 303 Savage. I ran the serial # on two of those sites that tell you when it was made and they both said 1913. I went to my local gun shop to check on where the heck the 250-3000 one that I just bought is and got to looking this one over. Before I knew it, the darned thing followed me home. Its definitely the most used of the ones that I have but I think it will shoot OK.

So, when I post the pictures do I post them as reply on this thread or do I start a new one. I have no clue what I'm doing here!

First time on the forum. I'm still using a 99 .300 Savage that I shot my first deer with at 12. I'm in my late fifties and my grandfather had won the rifle in one of the old time punch boards sometime in the early 1900's. He gave it to my father who gave it to me. Still knocks down the muleys and elk.

I have 6 now. I had 2 300's and a .243. I just picked up a .308, .30.30, and a .303 at an estate auction. This guy hsd 5,000 plus guns. They've had 3 autions already and at least 3 more planned. Incredible amounts of antique guns. everything was in racks in a big block building. Talk about obssesive compulsive. Not that it's a bad thing in this case. I'm going to the ammo auction this Saturday 300,000 rounds worth. Maybe I can find ammo for the .303 anybody know where I can get some dies?
