Anybody here ever shot and hunted with one of these shotguns? I'm considering one in 20 gauge.

Thanks.

Im eyeballing one of the new 301's as a truck gun.. maybe 12 or 20 gauge. Red dot for night time skunk shooting.

Please tell me if you find good intel.

I'm assuming they will have a stiff heavy trigger.

Look at the Henry. Nice checkered walnut, and the ones made this year and henceforth have a much improved trigger and are easier to cock. $400, more or less.

I wish they would drill and tap them for a rail, but have my .410 at the smith now having that done. Gonna play with slugs, PD loads, and rubber buckshot. Thankfully, I scored some TSS before the craziness began.

Had one of the old Savages in .410, but the real old ones like mine lack a draw bar and cock when you push on the lever, pretty tough for a kid, or an old man with stiff digits.

FYI... Henry's had recalls and $400 is too much for a single shot. Especially if its not set up for the red dot for that much.

Ones produced in 2020 have the new trigger and are thus not subject to the recall. Taz didn’t mention optics, so maybe he doesn’t care. The Stevens 301 is made in China, and looks like a copy of the H&R. Haven’t handled one, but both Henrys I’ve messed with are very nicely fit and finished.

Since I don't have a truck, a barn, or a chicken coop, I’ll gladly pay more for nice checkered walnut instead of Tupperware, and good bluing.

I wanted a lightweight turkey gun. Got tired of lugging my A-5 around. I bought a Winchester 37. Light and handy.

Yup. That’s what prompted my purchase of the Henry .410. My Light Twelve (30”) ain't all that light any more. Killer dove gun, but a load to tote.

I bought a Henry Single shot 12ga 26" as soon as I could get My hands on one and I love it! (I sent it back to Henry for the trigger job, Henry has great service with fast turnaround 👍)....Since I was a 14 year old boy My chosen weapon for hunting squirrels is a single shot shotgun, I have owned several Winchester Model 37/37a and Savage single shot's and the new Henry is head and shoulders above the others, I would highly recommed one of these for someone considering a single shot shotgun.....Hb

I found one in a pawnshop for $110 (12ga) out the door. What amazed me was it has screw in choke tubes (Winchoke style) and it points very nicely. The trigger pull can be adjusted by removing the butt stock and backing the screw at the rear holding the hammer spring down. Don’t go to much or you could experience light hammer strikes.

Interesting inb the trigger adjustment. I handled one at a shop and the trigger pull was horrendous. I may have to reconsider id its adjustable.

Found a 3" 20ga single shot break open on lake-link.com, it's by Green Bay, WI. Made by CBG in Brazil, never heard of them. Has a fixed full choke and some scroll engraving on the receiver, looks like a hardwood stock. They're asking $125 OBO, might have to take a look next time I'm up there. My thought too, is a lightweight kicking around shotgun for turkey. Break out the rattle can spray paint and go...

Update... I found a ithica model 66 single shot 20 with mod choke that shoots really well. This is one that has a lever action look and a ventilated rib to add sights to if I want.

Need to experiment a little, but this will be a back up in my truck for my main turkey gun.

My brother bought one of those in the slug version. It was a lively little cannon!

Don’t dry fire it! The firing pin broke on his and he cobbled one up by grinding down a bolt, using of all things, the grinder attachment on a Kirby vacuum cleaner (my uncle sold those, and we had every attachment).

Good to know... because just did it. :-(

Time to real test fire it to make sure it works still.

I was looking at the patterns and its a solid 30 yard gun with modified. Maybe more.
