Gents:
What are we using these days to treat fly lines, so they lay out there nice and smooth.

I just loaded an old but NIB WF6F for #1 son, and its kinda crinkly and stiff. Scientific Anglers, prolly at least 20 YO (Been saving it!}. Its going to be his Christmas present ( a whole outfit).

I used to soften fly line up in the olden days with Cortland "fly line treatment:" which came with a circular felt cloth as applicator. Mighta been bacon grease for all I know, In the early 2000's I used Armorall, which made the line beautifully slick but seemed to make floating lines sink. Surely there is something better these days.

Recommendations?

A bit of armor all on a shotgun cleaning patch. Cleans and really slicks up a fly line.

ell, it's that time of the year again - I knew I had some stuff and dug through the bag and it's some stuff call Cortland Pro Line - kinda waxy on a couple little felt pads and judging by the black streaks on it either my lines were filthy or it does a good job, or both.

Looking forward to getting on the stream again. Didn't do all the reels but they do pile up don't they if you fish for much variety in different ways.

Using loon fly line cleaner. I am amazed at how brown the cleaning cloth is after running a line though it.

Mucilin.

But, after about 45 years, I've jumped into the 21st century. Now I use the Mucilin with silicone.
