That might not be the worst news of 2020, but it’s top 5 for sure.
Bass Pro sucks donkey balls.

Sportsmans Warehouse bought buy Bass ProSpringfield, Mo. and West Jordan, Utah (December 21, 2020) – In an effort to better serve its loyal customers, Sportsman’s Warehouse has entered into a definitive agreement to join the Great American Outdoors Group, parent company of Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, White River Marine Group and a collection of nature-based resorts. The Great American Outdoors Group will remain a private company with a long-term view to do what is best for its customers, team members and conservation initiatives. As part of the agreement, Sportsman’s Warehouse will be acquired for $18.00 per share in cash. The driving force behind the partnership is the two companies’ similar histories and highly complementary business philosophies and geographic footprints. Both entities share a passion with their customers for fishing, camping, hunting, boating and other outdoor activities. Likewise, both are highly acclaimed retailers with well-deserved reputations for a broad offering of outstanding brand name and proprietary products, superior customer service, deeply knowledgeable team members and an unwavering passion for conservation. Uniting together represents an unprecedented “win-win” opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts. “We are excited to be joining the Great American Outdoors Group. This merger brings together the greatest brands in the outdoor industry. As we look to the future, the combined entities provide our passionate associates with greater opportunities to serve the outdoor enthusiast. I couldn’t be more proud of the nearly 8,000 Sportsman’s Warehouse associates and their success in building our brand over the last 33 years. We look forward to a smooth transition and building our partnership,” said Sportsman’s Warehouse CEO Jon Barker. “Today is a happy day for our companies, outdoor enthusiasts and for the cause of conservation,” said Bass Pro Shops Founder and Great American Outdoors Group Leader, Johnny Morris. “As outdoor sports specialists with unwavering dedication to people who fish, hunt and enjoy the outdoors, we greatly admire the passionate team at Sportsman’s Warehouse for their commitment to their customers and the sports we all love. By combining our best practices, our aim is to give our customers a best-of-the-best experience while further uniting them to support conservation,” added Morris. Sportsman’s Warehouse customers can expect all of what they love now plus a whole lot more Widely expanded product offerings including: · Access to the world’s largest selection of premium fishing tackle including legendary Bass Pro Shops and other premier brands · The largest selection of premium hunting gear including the iconic Cabela’s brand · Sportsman’s Warehouse will be able to offer customers the world’s leading boat brands, side-by-sides and ATVs at money-saving prices. The company’s great family of brands, Tracker, Nitro, Ranger, Ascend Kayaks and other products, are all built right here in the USA by American craftsmen and sold directly to customers through our stores and a select group of dealers, effectively giving customers the opportunity to buy factory-direct at money-saving prices.
"Maybe we're all happy."
"Go to the sporting goods store. From the files, obtain form 4473. These will contain descriptions of weapons and lists of private ownership."

That does suck, I was just at the Roanoke store today. They have gotten a lot of $$$$ from me.
Cabela’s was my go to store for clothing, not any more. Sportsman’s Warehouse was where I got most reloading stuff.

Yep, that blows. I'm sure Jon Barker (CEO) is cashing in. How you can foster an "anti-Cabela's" or "anti-Bass Pro" image and then sell out to them, I'll never know. It's like selling your soul to the devil.
I'm with Springcove - Scheels it is.

Scheels will now get all of my business. Thanks for the information. This is no lie. It’s the only large sporting goods store that I’ll do business in. I can’t stand what BS is, and what they’ve done to Cabelas in short order.

And 2020 just can't let go without piling on more scheiss.
Sportsman's was the last best place around here to buy firearms and a good selection of reloading supplies at reasonable prices.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

Bass Pro screwed up my local Cabelas store when they bought it with all the [bleep] crap they sell - and no Bargain Barn anymore.

I thought SW got ruined when the owner got caught screwing his secretary, his wife found out, and he had to shut down and sell half his stores...

Eff ‘em!! Midway sells fishing stuff, and Brownells has plenty of shooting stuff.
I’ve ordered exactly 5 boxes of ammo, and 2 packs of socks, since the Bass Pro takeover of Cabela’s. Rest of my biz has gone to Midway, Brownells, and small dealers.

oh good lord!!!!!! bass pro runs the cabelas near me like they want to intentionally make it go out of business. I am not kidding the store is run so bad its like they are trying to self sabotage the place. sportsmans wharehouse had gotten my business almost entirely the last few years. this really sucks!!! it has to be true all of us agree how terrible basspro runs these companies they buy out. its almost like a remington/freedom group deal where they buy the company, cut costs, quite advertising, fire people, show a profit, then get some bank to load them enough money to pay themselves back for buying the company. then vampire out whats left and file bankruptcy.

Market is ripe for a good regional business.
Nobody out here likes BP, the place is never busy. It was the first couple years but it sure didn’t last. Local Cabelas is a fraction of what it was.
Sportco is a local shop that continues to grow.

“In an effort to better serve our loyal customers...”
Good God. At least they didn’t mention “corporate synergies” in that statement...
