I’m laid up after hip surgery and wifey wants me to buy a new truck. Anyone have any experience with the 2020 Four Runner SR5, specifically does it have hi and lo range on the 4wd. My off-roading is strictly muddy farm 2 tracks and tote road in Maine. The higher end models offer better options but I’m not rock climbing or going off of trails. Any information would be helpful. Thanks

I have a 2018 SR5. It has hi and low range. It also has downhill assist. I drive off road on logging trails and never got stuck here is PA mountains. I imagine the 2020 is equipped the same way.
Mine has been excellent with about 65000 miles so far.

my lad has a 2020 4Runner TRD Pro. One neat thing it has is crawl control. Just set it, and it tells which wheel to do what. Zips right through mud and deep sand.

Probably get flamed, but I was 95% sure I was going to get a new 4runner in the last month. Like the look, like the size, features ??, price was right though.

Was really disappointed in the power, it's adequate but the mileage (mpg) is terrible but what I really disliked was the constant gear hunting. Not saying the transmission isn't solid, but they really need another gear.

I've driving an '18 SR5 4wd as well. The only difference between it and a 20 is etune display size, probably more etune functions, lane change and cruise radar stuff.

I've often thought about maybe a TRD OR, but I dont face any serious 4wd challenges now, much less anything that would necessitate a rear locker.

The current 4runners are not rockets by any stretch....270 hp.......not a lot of going up a mountain straight away.

We thought about one when my wife said she wanted a little sun. Terrible milage, gutless, or too few gears are each big problems to us. She hated the mileage, I didn't like the lack of power and gears .

We bought her a little jeep Cherokee trailhawk instead. Not quite the same class but with the 9 speed auto and little 3.2 v6 it drives pretty well and we've averaged about 26mpg overall. It also stickered for $37,000 but we got discounts and rebates and only paid about $26,000. No problems in a year and a half. It has low range a little lift and does pretty well off road.

I'd suggest an older Lexus GX 460 before the 4Runner

I prefer the older ones..2010-2013...'14+ years changed the front end

You get a much nicer cabin...301 horse 4.6L V8...center diff lock.....6 speed AT..Hi-Lo 4x4..DAC

More roomy than the 4R.......Just a great solid truck for $20-$25K ish

I wish it did have more power and a 6th gear, but don't have any gear hunting issues and got 21.4mpg over the first 30k miles. Stopped keeping track after that.

I’d second that. A Toyota Land Cruiser Prado with Lexus options. Proven all over the world but for who knows why, not offered here.

Any thoughts on Sequoia? Never owned one but like the size. Maybe that or a GX470 1 owner older version.

My mom drives a 2015 Limited 4x4 Sequoia that is very nice, sturdy, and reliable except for it has the same infotainment/nav system my 2014 Tundra had and they both suck. Mine was replaced three times, her's twice so far.

The wife has put 335,000 miles on an 05 GX-470 and we have passed it down to my baby girl.
Bought her a 17 460 with low miles and they are both happy.

I have to say the 470 is the most reliable thing we have ever owned, finally put an alternator on it a couple of weeks back along with the idler pulley and tensioner assembly, still going strong.

Can only hope the 460 will do the same.

Really well built vehicles.
