Looking to cut down the barrel/mag tube on an old 336RC.
Would prefer a smith who is familiar with dovetail mounting the mag tube etc.
Anyone have a few places to start? It seems the more well know larger companies are just doing parts or complete packages now.

If your gunsmith isn't familiar with doing dovetails he isn't even worthy of calling himself a gun plumber. Dinny gave you all you need to know. RN is good and has been around for a while. And Grant City isn't too far from Iowa for some geography. Be Well, RustyZipper.

They dont, they were my fist stop. Seems like most of the well know Marlin smiths are only doing complete guns or packages now.

Wish they made parts as good as WWG. Bought an RPP big loop lever 2 or 3 years ago and it wasn't real stainless.
Don't ask me about my military service or heroic acts...most of it is untrue.

At the risk of being "that guy", have you considered doing it yourself? I've cut and crowned as well as cut dovetails with basic tools with no problems. If you're handy you can do it.

I have but I also wanted the action gone through and tuned, especially with the addition of the RPP parts being installed. While I typically would give it a shot given the basics dont seem overly complicated, its just something Id rather spend the money to make sure its done properly. Which is also why Im after a Marlin specific smith to do the work vs any old smith with a lathe.

If you decide on a smith, I would like to know who you pick if you wouldn't mind. I would like to do a similar thing with a 30/30
