Hey fellas, I have a NIB CZ 452 American 22 LR that I've been hanging onto, but lately I have realized I'll likely never shoot it. If I can convince myself that I can do without it, what kind of price should I ask for it? It has the correct box, papers, etc., and doesn't have any special wood or anything. Thanks in advance for your input!

I bought mine five years ago, one of the last runs from Whittaker's, and paid IIRC, $359 for it. I've since seen them going for roughly $450 NIB. That was a couple of years ago.

It would probably be best to check on Gunbroker and see what the last ones sold for, to get a more accurate guesstimate of the real price they're bringing now. Even NIB 455s are bringing $350-450 now. The last one I bought was $395, for a 455 American w/walnujt stock. A 452 should bring more than a 455. I like and have both models, but the 452 will outshoot the others by a fair margin.

I would guess close to $600 in my area. NIB. They are desirable and better thought of than the 455 models. Jury's still out on the 457 but they as well seem good.

I had a 455, then sold it and bought a 453, partly because it still had the rear locking lug of the 452, but IIRC, it also only had one screw holding the barreled action in the stock. My next was a 455 SS, more accurate than the previous 455, not as good as the 453, but the trigger is the best of the three. The 457 addresses the safety (if that keeps you up nights), the high bolt lift, has an easily adjusted trigger, two action screws, a very nice-looking trigger guard, and still takes accessory barrels like the 455; the same ones in fact. Slam-dunk for the 457 if buying new. Those with the others that shoot well can add a 457, or dance with what you have. Another 457 plus is the nitride finish. The bolt is really finely machined. Hard to believe they can do it for the price.

I bought the Varmint MTR as a range toy. My SS 455 is staying on as a field rifle and understudy practice rifle.

You should have no trouble selling your 452. I’d start at $450, minimum, at auction. Don't know where in VA you are, but the Shenandoah Valley has been a crappy place to sell guns lately, my guns anyway. Good luck.

452's are in high demand. I wouldn't sell any of mine for less than $600.

mine was bought new, at $199.00

it is a Trainer model with the 25 inch barrel...

it'll head shoot gophers at 125 yds all day long....

have mainly used Federal bulk ammo...

has more than 30,000 rounds down the barrel, and killed many a sage rat...

it ain't for sell regardless of price offered...

would have a heck of a time replacing it...

My lgs has two brand new 452 Americans. Priced at $460. Im doing my best to resist the temptation...

I see a lot of high prices on them, I think that will fade out in time, they are great rifles and I would say if you want to sell it I would say 500.00.....I see the 600.00 to 650.00 ones not sell and if they do it takes a while. Good luck.

Ordered mine as soon as I read a left hand was available, 3 digit serial number after the 0's, and its not for sale at triple what I paid.

600ish. I bought a 452fs last year, in the box, for 600 plus tax, a little better than average wood on it. One of those, it was there and I had to have it things.

I have one, only it's a 17hm2. Will never sell it. If you find a fella that's had or has one and wants another, they will do $600 without batting an eye.

Most used examples I see sell for more. Brandy new, I'd be taking one home with me.

If he was within driving distance of me they BOTH would be gone. One for me, one for my son.

The most recent one I saw in a shop was a heavy barrel 17 HMR, better than average condition and priced at $600.

I hope you got a discount on it. They installed the bolt on the wrong side of the rifle!

RGK, your rifle is absolutely beautiful with the gloss Leupold! I personally believe gloss scopes make for a more beautiful rifle especially on older rifles that use a deeper bluing. I have a CZ 452-2E Custom Tribal at 98% with no scratches or dings in a box with all paperwork. Bought it several years ago from a fellow who stated he was afraid to hunt with it because he didn't want to damage it. Ive yet to mount a leupold 3x9x33 efr on it but its coming soon as soon as I make out my next order list for some rings. I use the Burris Signature Rimfires with nylon inserts so I don't leave marks on my scope. My 452-2E has nice grained walnut. As to the gentleman who started this post I must say mine is not for sale to profit a couple hundred dollars. Once its gone it's gone. 4 or 5 tanks of diesel in my old truck and the profit is gone too!

I wish I were close enough to pick up those two for $460. That is a deal there!!!

I think all of the folks above that are talking about the $600 ball park are likely correct! Relatively cheap, and very plentiful at one point, and now people realize they are gone! Each of mine are incredible shooters, handle extremely well, and are simple rifles.

i would get one. thats about what i paid for one 3 yrs ago.

A little bit different but I watched a 452 Ultra Lux on GB go for $1100 recently..

ETA: at $460 I would likely buy both the Americans and sell one to a buddy or online

I had heard the 452 shhot great. I bought one for my son who was taking over my Ruger M77-22. It shoots great but, He Hated the safety being ass backward from American rifles. He bought a Volquartsen and has been very happy. I have considered selling, but it is so accurate. I had a trigger kit put in it and free floated barrel is all that has been done. I never shoot it, but let friends shoot it and family.

Oh, it has digested 1500 rounds or so, on a weekend over toward Klamath shooting sage rats all weekend many a time...

a couple of those trips each year.... and having it for the last 15 to 20 years.... 30,000 rounds isn't that hard to send down the barrel..

but I'll concede, that is a lot of loading on a 5 round magazine..... but that one is steel...so its durable...

If I would have ever come across one of the 28 inch barreled trainers, I'd certainly have picked up one...
even if a 28 inch barrel looks kinda overkill on a bolt action 22 with a 5 round mag...

I have a lefty 452 American. Never understood the safety problem. I do shoot a lot of 22, and have a fair size collection of them, so I'm used to switching up rifles a lot.

Smithrjd: This "juror" is NOT "still out" on the CZ 457.
I have been hesitant to join the CZ crowd for many many year due to the bass-ackwards safeties on all their previous rimfire models.
I did buy two used CZ 455's in 17 HMR almost two years ago at giveaway prices - so I couldn't pass them up - already re-sold one of them and have a buyer in line for the other.
The CZ 457 I bought is the heavy barrel wood stocked model and its looks are only surpassed by its accuracy (in 22 Magnum no less!) and one of the main reasons I bought it was for the corrected safety.
Have two friends with CZ 457's in 17 HMR and they are equally as thrilled with theirs as I am with mine.
Haven't heard any negative feed-back on the CZ 457's to date.
To the original poster I will have to add to others here that the market in "CZ's" is very strong, demand and price wise!
I wish I were more up on prices for a recommendation but I have NOT seen a single rimfire CZ in a sporting goods shop or gunshop in at least 3 months (way before Christmas). And I have been to probably 15 - 18 shops in three states during that time - its a sellers market in other words.

VG how does that 22 mag shoot? I have been thinking about getting one but 22 mag rifles are a crap shoot for me. I currently have a 77/22 Mag. I had the barrel cut back and rechambered with a "match" chamber but it is still a 1 to 1.5" gun. My next option is a new barrel or a different 22 mag rifle.

BTW I do have two 452's, one in 22 and the other in 17 HMR. Both are tack drivers. And that safety does sucks big time!

I guess I'm weird , " backwards" safety doesn't bother me at all.

The safety has never been an issue for me, as I’m used used to dealing with all kinds of safeties on various guns. Even the trigger on my current 455 could hardly be improved much, if any. The cheesy trigger guard has always been a shortcoming, but the biggest issue is the high bolt lift. The 457 fixes it all. My Varmint MTR is very nicely made indeed, and the new action takes care of all the little flaws.

There’s always resistance to new stuff from those who are heavily “invested” in the old in one way or the other. In this case, it’s their loss; the 457s are excellent rifles. I like mine even better than my old favorite 77/22s, which is pretty surprising.

I have gotten use to it over time. Having a few Model 70's and a Mauser with a Model 70 style safety it can get confusing when shooting fast.

I also have had various and most often POOR accuracy from all manner of 22 Magnum Rifles I have owned over the last 5 1/2 decades!
Even had a high dollar Anschutz that shot poorly!
I would have kept my heavy barrel Ruger 77/22 Magnum if it had shot near as good as yours is shooting! I sold it.
The Norma ammunition I originally tried in my heavy barrel Browning T-Bolt 22 Magnum shot splendidly well - but I can NOT find anymore of it to get me through the upcoming Ground Squirrel season!

As soon as the weather settles here a bit I am going to be testing CCI and Winchester 22 Magnum H/P's that I have on hand - I hope they shoot near as well as that stash of Norma I used up.
That bass-ackwards safety on the CZ's (I often shot my Varminting friends CZ's) actually kept me awake at night.
And the heavy barrel CZ 455 in 17 HMR that I have owned a while now it shoots wonderfully well but I often leave it to home because of the bass-ackward safety!
Its just me fearing shooting the finger or ear off one my Hunting companions that worries me about these CZ bass-ackward safeties.

I never use the safety on mine.. Just never chamber a round until I am ready to shoot.. Sometimes if I don't take the shot, I do put it on for a couple minutes.. If I move, I unload the chamber and leave the bolt open..
