Prime rib is gone. Oldest daughter and family had ham for Christmas and wanted to know if her mom and I wanted the hambone. Had at least a pound of Meat left on it. The wife has had the ham and beans on since last night. She just put the cornbread in the oven in the cast iron skillet. I am hungry! Doesn’t get much better!

That’s a good meal. Little bit of kale taste good with it too.

My favorite is a fried pork chop added in with the meal.

YUM!!!!! That do sound good!!!

Daughter cooked one of those spiral hams last Wednesday. Gave me a good hunk of it. Cooked the wife and I ham and duck eggs for breakfast! With mustang grape jelly granddaughter made this summer.

I had leftover beans and sowbelly today at lunch. Man I’m fartin’ like a roan hack horse!!!

We always use the left over bone for pea soup. Bean and ham sounds interesting.

Sounds good

In fact I need to make a batch without the bone, gave that to the MIL Xmas day.

Thinking of soaking beans tomorrow using quick soak method with hot water, any good recepies yall care to share?

I am thinking pinto's, chunks of ham, saute a onion, but I don't have any idea's what else to combine vs googling a bean recepie. Maybe brown sugar and some spices?

Thanks

We do the same with leftover ham from T-Day. White beans, ham hock, and cabbage.

Should skip the cabbage probably...

I used to think I didn’t like “ham and beans”. Mom made them as a kid. Hambone thrown in the beans that most dogs would turn their nose up at due to the lack of ham. Later in life had some actual ham and beans that had a significant portion of ham in it. That was the ticket. More ham. And a shot of vinegar for good measure.

If making for myself I’ll use the Charro bean recipe from Mi Tierra in San Antonio as my start. Either with the bacon only, or substitute in a lot of ham if that’s what I’ve got.

As we are not eating much in the way of beans these days my youngest son, home for the holidays, hauled off a couple of pounds of hocks that were in the freezer.

Ham and beans, chopped onions and several shakes of Tabasco.
Cornbread is good.

A crusty homemade or Italian bread, butter and thick layer of homemade
Apple butter is better. (For me)

Just did that about a week ago.

The Christmas left overs are destined for pot pie.
Home made pot pie noodles.

Some good coleslaw with it.

I don't care how many salted fish eggs or snails the rich people eat.
I'm eating better!

Okay, Bob....that’s a little more information than we really need...

On the other hand, be have a blizzard and/or ice storm scheduled for tomorrow night thru most of Wednesday. So, I’ve already told my dear little wife I’m fixin’ my infamous shredded beef and fried beans with fresh corn tortillas. If’n the furnace pilot light kicks in at the wrong time- half the neighborhood could be doomed.

Black-eyed peas and cornbread is tradition here, for New Years!

Have local smoked pork hocks in the fridge and fresh BE peas ready to go.....

Grilled and raw oysters to round out the meal.

LET'S GO!!!
