It was a total impulse buy, but I really like it. It's a Remington model Six pump-action chambered in 30-06. This was the most common chambering for the model Six.The wood is an upgrade from the 760 with nice checkering and decent grain. It also has a cheek piece which is a nice touch. The cartridge case head on the bottom of the reciever is what caught my eye from the counter, hadn't seen that before. I'm going to scope it, but I'm not sure if I should go with an period-correct gloss finsh or a more modern piece of glass. I have a NIB Leupold VX2 3-9x40 matte finish that would sit on top quite nicely.This will not be a primary, or even a back-up rifle, but it needs and deserves to be shot, handled and enjoyed. I plan to do exactly that.

The Model Six was manufactured from 1981-1987. The 7600 of course was continued.
The Model Six cost $20.00 more at the time. Go Figure !!

Hey jwall, how hard are those stocks to come by? I have a line on a beautiful 760 with a synthetic stock. I’d like to put a M6 stock on it for the raised cheek piece.

Hunting buddy has a .270 Model Six. Funny thing, he's a cool shot, and I've never, ever seen him pump it fast. One shot and he's done.

jwall, you nailed it! That's a fine collection of Six's you have there. Mine does not have a sling swivel stud on the buttstock like yours do.

To the best of my ?memory? the Model Six rifles did NOT come with sling
studs. I believe that I installed those myself.

I have FMD > Fading Memory Disorder.... so figure that in. Lol

Saw this 30-06 760 for $359 today. Six digit serial number starting in 301xxx so must be late 50s to early 60s.

Mr jwall has some nice Rem 6 pumps...I love Rem pumps, too. Here's a couple of favorites, both wearing Lyman 4X scopes.

I'm a fan and consider the Model Six Remingtons finest effort.

I have a 760 with sn 2141xx that was assembled in 06/54.

After some brief research, I've concluded that your FMD is in very early stages at the most! There is no indication from Remington that the model Six had sling studs installed at the factory, at least that I could find.

Very nice.. I had decided to buy a pump Remington for hunting in Pa. and WVa.. Then the camp was sold and that phase of life is over...

I think you'll love it. I have a 7600 in .270 with the mate bead-blasted finish; I took that to its logical conclusion and fitted a Magpul shotgun stock and Leupold 1.5-4x. It's now my general-purpose rifle for when 5.56 is insufficient.

Any pictures of that setup? General magpul 870 stock?

Here you go! The Magpul stock (870 SGA) requires removal of some of the lug material to fit the receiver as it is designed for a 12-gauge shotgun while the 7600 receiver is the same size as a 20-gauge 870. Likewise, the polymer sits proud of the receiver - I wrapped the back of the receiver in masking tape to protect it, and carefully shaped the stock down with a file and then fine sandpaper. It's still not a perfect fit and I may revisit it in the future, but it's miles better than when I first attached the stock.

I'm partial to the SGA stock because of the grip angle and LOP/cheek riser adjustability. My preference is for shorter-than-average LOP for offhand shooting and/or shooting while wearing a small pack.

The magazine is a Triple K ten-rounder. I've found that these can require minor tweaks to the feed lips, as they sometimes present the cartridge nose too low for proper feeding. After that, they're pretty reliable. I have three ten-rounders and one of the excellent one-piece factory magazines - the four-round magazine carries better and is my preference for hunting and field carry, but sometimes a bit more capacity is valuable.

I'll add that my 7600 is more accurate than my AR.
