It aint the bagging thing.
It aint the not on the payroll thing.

It's the tech intimidation thing.

Just try it a couple of times.
It is easy once you get over the trepidation of being possibly embarrassed.

Can you get your cigs at the self checkout?

askin' for a friendgrin

That’s my main reason to use it right there. I get to sort my items the way I want and I put more than 3 items in a bag.

If not self checkout, my personal rule is if the natural color of their hair is gone and it is now white, I won’t use them. 4 minutes per item plus the quiz of what I’m going to do with the thick sliced pepper bacon isn’t the reason I went grocery shopping.

They better recognize when Reloader-Two-Eight rolls in.

I wish they had self service meat slicing at the deli.

So i wouldn’t have to go thru the whole Ta’Nesha ordeal each time.

“Can i hep you”

“Yes ma’am. I’d like that all beef German bologna. A pound of it. “

“How tick?”

“Oh. You know. Bologna size”

“Look at the chert and see what size....”

“Yes ma’am. How about a 3”.

“A tree?”

“ yea ma’am. “

“How dis? “

“That’s shaved, not a 3”

“Dis?”

“No ma’am. That’s steak size. “

“Dis?”

Fug it. “Yes ma’am. That work fine. “.

“Her merch again”

“One pound”.

I use it at every opportunity.

I like people. But I don't really care to have to deal with said people. Especially the lady that thinks she needs to carry on an in-depth conversation with everyone that comes through her line. Talk about every damn item. Discuss the weather or the latest sale.

Or wait for someone to figure out how to run their card or challenge prices etc.

I can generally get through the self-checkout in way less time. With way less interaction with other customers and store employees.

Sucks at Kroger, works pretty good at Walmart. Hate 'em both. Gimmie a discount if you want me to do my own work.

No give, no take...fuck 'em, I go elsewhere.

Prezactly.
I’ll chose self-scan every time.

If I have less than 6-7 items, which I almost always do have less than that, I use self checkout.

Scanning a barcode ain’t that hard. Usually no waiting and no stupid small talk. Get in, get out, and get on with my life.

At Sam's Club, we use an App. We scan our items as we put them in the cart. When we're done shopping, we hit finished. It rings it up, show this to the person at the door, they check our phone and out the door we go.
No waiting in line to check out.

I don't like em at all, but it's the way things
are going to be whether I like it or not.
When they first started it years back, I would
stand in a line 10 or 15 extra minutes to keep
from using a self check. Now, there's not
really much choice. You either check yourself
out or do without. The only reason they ever
went that route is to eliminate a paid employee
as someone already posted.
On the rare occasion that they do have a live
cashier, I'll take advantage of it unless there's
a black woman cashier and a black woman
customer in line in front of me, because they'll
dicker over each item and start the pendulum
finger and the chicken neck jive.

Until Safeway can hire people that don’t look like they consumed a vial of lithium before coming to work....I’ll continue to use self checkout.

Some of them, like our grocery store. will freeze up if you take anything off the tray before checking out. If you go through with a lot of stuff, you can't get it all on the tray. Others, like Wallys and Home Depot, have a hand scanner so you don't even have to take big stuff out of the cart. MUCH better.

You guys who don't like self checkouts - how much extra do you pay to have an attendant pump your gas? (yeah, I know you have to have them do it in OR).

I have avoided self checkouts from the beginning. Except for cash outlets .
