I made some Tacos with a pack of gizzards/hearts, red onion, cilantro, lime, salt, pepper, and corn tortillas.

I feel like it was missing something. What seasonings would you use? Pretty good, just missing something.

Chile powder, cumin, fresh garlic for starters. Sometimes it ain't a spice that's missing. It's the overall build with juices, pan drippings, etc...

That and they're heart/gizzards...grin ...

I put a small amount of chile powder and Cumin... Left the garlic clove on the cutting board and didn't realize it.

I love hearts, first time cooking the gizzards myself (Super cheap large packages at walmart today) I put them in a pressure cooker for 25min, chopped them up and then threw them in the skillet with the onion at the start. Hearts were only in for a very short time.

Always good to try new things.

I like this one by Dizzy Pig as an all around Mexican spice. https://dizzypigbbq.com/product/fajita-ish/

For quick easy tacos with minimal fuss I always have a bottle of Lawry’s carne asada seasoning on the counter. Just shake it in to taste as you brown the meat. It’s pretty good stuff, I use it in the disc for fajita night on camping trips too.

Bingo. Lots of experimenting variations on the chile powders as wells.

And your ready to step it up make your own chile paste from dried whole chiles.

Other classic Taco seasonings:
Cinnamon
Smoked and or hot Paprika
Onion powder and or dried minced
Cayenne
Mexican Oregano
Ground coriander
Lemon pepper
Lime and or lemon zest

Achiote for that red color, Cilantro dry at first then fresh to serve, Ancho Chili powder, Habeneros for heat, Chipotle for smokiness & heat, I use fresh garlic but then add the powder to thicken. I will usually add some tomato, either salsa caserra or rotel but not too much. Sofrito does the same thing.

Sometimes will add mole sauce or adobo.

I rent to quite a few Hispanic families and You alway see bottles of Tajin and sazon in the kitchen.
Great renters but they wear out stoves twice as fast. Always big stockpots going.

Have you looked at the MSG in the brand? Almost all have salt then MSG listed as the top two ingredients.

Agree... slightly more partial to their fajita mix though. Been known to use both...

Appears no MSG. "Spices, Salt, Garlic and Paprika". Their Carne Guisada mix is also excellent. They are local to me.

No, but you can hand him a martini and have it shaken not stirred. If you feed him MSG
