I became aware of the Henry single shots on a Face Book thread not long ago.
I've always thought that a nice single in .357 mag would be a real champ for plinking and small game shooting, so this caught my eye.

The reviews I've read are mostly positive, with the heavy trigger being the only issue. Those that sent their rifles in for the recall due to the trigger mechanism are reporting a much better trigger upon return. So maybe that's not an issue any longer.

A nice little single in .357 mag could of course be used with .38 specials (the fun factor round), .357's to hunt with if you wanted and even the possibility to ream the chamber for the .357 max if so desired...

Anyone have one or have to opportunity to shoot one? What's you take on the rifle??
I know they're not in the same league as say the Browning Low Walls, but maybe a decent entry model..

I've got one in .223/.556. Great little gun. Got it not long after they came out and worked on the trigger myself to lighten it. Sent it in for the recall and the trigger came back good. Have thought about getting one in 357 and getting one in 308. Will have to wait until things settle down with availability and prices.

I picked up this 243 not long ago. Brutal trigger that now breaks very crisply at 3 pounds since the recall work was done. I have not shot it since the work was done. I bought mine used but mint with the box and paper work. It now wears a 3-9X USA made Redfield Revolution. I hope to dial it in this week.

cruzerbotz, Thank You.

While researching a bit, I found your posts on another forum discussing this rifles trigger springs issue.
How does the new trigger compare to the one you had originally modified? Trigger # ?
I think I'll run down to Bi Mart and see what it would cost to order...

EdM, thanks for the pics!

Sounds like Henry may be taking care of my major concern with the trigger group.
That should be a fun practical rifle.

I also wonder if any of the .357 mag owners have run the Speer plastic practice cartridges through theirs?

I had one and really liked it. Shot less than an inch at 75 yards while dialing it in. Sold for another project...kinda wish I would have kept it

I recently sold my 45/70. My neck issues couldn't tolerate the recoil anymore (I loaded them stout). I had sent it in for the recall and the trigger was much improved. Was window shopping at Cabela's yesterday and they had one of each unfired with boxes from and estate. I grabbed the blued 44 Magnum, it has had the recall done.

Sooooo, Bi Mart will no longer order a firearm for folks.
Claimed that due to C19, they can not guarantee a timely order and simply will not...
Whatever. I’ll see what others can do for me. If under $400 I’d be interested.

I bought a 357 late last summer. Haven’t shot it much yet (hunting season was starting)but it shoots Hornady 158gr XTPs very well at 75 yards. It shot a bunch of cheap 38 special ammo well to very good also. It showed a preference for plain ol lead 158 gr round nose in 38 special in my short time with it. It currently sits at Henry for the recall so I am hopeful that my trigger is better when it returns!

I bought mine for a fun/truck gun mainly because I have a lot of 38 special/357 ammo. I couldn’t find a blued rifle when I was looking so wound up with a brass receiver. I like it although it wouldn’t have been my preference if I could have found a blued rifle. However, I greatly dislike the straight stock. It just doesn’t feel as well to me as the pistol gripped models (seems way thicker in the wrist to me). I am probably going to change out the stocks when I get it back. Henry has them listed for sale on their website.

That’s very good to know!
One of the reasons for my interest is to have an inexpensive plinker to introduce grandkids to the centerfire world.
The option to have a shortened butt stock for them is ideal.

Ed, that's a pretty handsome rifle. Will you put optics on it?

If they are still on the same schedule you should have it back in two weeks door to door. The trigger should be around 4 lbs.

It's good to hear the triggers are better.

I looked at one, but ended up with a CVA Hunter in 44 mag because the trigger was light years ahead of the Henry's trigger.

The trigger after the recall was as good as after I did the work on it originally. Was thinking that at some point, someone would see if it could be lightened any more after the recall. If you are looking for one in .357, guns.com has them in stock.

I really like mine even with the straight stock. 38s have almost zero recoil and are pretty quiet. 357s have very lite recoil as well. I’m going to enjoy mine for varmints and plinking!

A question regarding trigger updates: Am I to assume every rifle being shipped today needs to have a trigger adjustment done at Henry?

I’m not sure where the cutoff is on the recall. I filled out an online form and submitted my serial number. They contacted me about 7 days later stating it was in the recall. I believe I got my rifle in August but not sure when manufactured. Basically, not only can I not answer your question I’m no help either!😂

IIRC, they said everything made in 2020 (and later naturally) has the upgraded works. The trigger guards have a little dimple on the underside. Of course the trigger pull should also be a clue. One of mine originally was pretty heavy, the other very heavy, as was the hammer-cocking effort. Both came back from Henry with nice pulls.

I took the .410 in to get the rail installed. My smith told me he had another with an awful pull he was going to try to fix. He thought the recalled pull on mine was very nice.

I'd be interested in these, even a 12 ga. They don't seem to be available many places and they are expensive.

I’m glad to see the interest in these rifles. I am kinda wanting a 30-30 Henry SS to go with the 357 now. Think I could make good use of it!

I haven’t seen any on GB for under $400 lately, but they’re much nicer guns than the old H&Rs, (but lack the ability to swap out barrels). Compare the price to other .357 rifles and they look pretty competitive. Scads of rifles and shotguns on GB, mostly under $500.
