I used to buy chicken house light clocks, and wire them for plugging in the tractor heaters.

All the clocks I can find now are flimsy little low amp outdoor light clocks.

Any ideas?

Not worth the risk of the damn thing not working. Or, in the case of an emergency, not having the tractor or equipment ready or available to use.

Plug it in and leave it plugged in. Ready whenever you need it.

Try this, they are made quite well and will handle the amps. It will require a bit of wiring. The market for them is water heaters, but they work with both 120 and 240 volts.

Richard, we have 3 tractors plugged in and of course a couple diesel pickups.


12 gauge cords and Woods 15 amp/1875 watt timers.


I bought a Dewells(sp?) and it will stop keeping time at -20F.


The Woods keep on ticking regardless of ambient temp.

If I do anything it is to use a thermostatically controlled timer.

I use a timer purchased at Menard. It works great on my International 766. I typically set it to warm up 1 1/2 hours prior to usage. If I'm unsure when I 'll be using it, I'll set it for an hour on, hour off, or 1/2 hour on, 1/2 hour off, until I fire it up.

You can just plug in any timer into wall socket and then plugs into that for under $10.
