Making a run on a defensive knivfe pattern and I am considering M4 as something new to work with. I have mostly used S30V and looking to try something else.

I love what I am hearing about the overall profile of M4 but I'm looking for feedback on corrosion for a knife carried close to the body. Any other steels I should consider? The design is a pikal style, will be 1/10" or possibly 1/8" with a high flat grind and a thin edge. Heat treat will be farmed out to Bo's heat treating so I am not worried if that is a pain in the butt.

Thanks for any insight.

It's carbon steel. Go from there.

after some use skinning dead animals, I'd say yeah, blood on the steel, not washed off, may stain, but if you wipe it, and keep it clean, it handles day to day conditions just fine.

Thank you for the feedback, looks like it is going to be CPM 4V or M390 for the first run.

Judman.
I am not sure what happened. Problem with solder, flux, the process or
just a senior moment. Not sure the problem is with the M4.
S35VN should be a nice steel for use.

At halftime ceremonies, M4 may not end up looking like the cheerleader Homecoming Queen , but more like
the all state pulling guard who is Homecoming King ready for the second half.
