Fuel gauge showed 1 bar out of 7. Shut down and got a full jug. Had to move tractor to where i refuel and left it running while filling. While fueling, engine stalled. Bubbles entrained from the jug?

Cracked the fuel line at forward injector until fuel showed, Restarted and it ran terrible with no throttle response. Cracked the middle line at the injector and it stalled. Got it restarted and still runs terrible rough. Ran for about two hours with no improvement.

What else can i do?

How much water was in that jug? Change the fuel / water filter and replace ALL the fuel with good clean fuel.

Fuel filter window shows 0 water.

How cold Iron Mike, jelled fuel?

Fuel is fine. Damn near 30* and have PS added. No water in see thru filter.

It just sounds like a fuel problem. If not water, than it has to air. Try bleeding the lines at the injectors again to make sure there no bubbles.

Has to be fuel. Bled the fuel line 5 or 6 times. Last time left it cracked wrapped in a rag while it ran (poorly). Soaked dripping rag and no improvement.

Mike, is there dealer support for you?

If you called me out for a service call on it...I would change ALL fuel filters and screen strainers if so equipped...insure that low points in supply lines have no ice ....fill with clean fresh WINTER fuel...prime and bleed per mfr's procedure. If it doesn't clear up and run well within a few minutes...you could have many other things wrong, one of the most likely would be an injector stuck open allowing compression pressure to backflow into the fuel system flooding it with high pressure air. You will have a 100% miss on that cylinder so it's easy to find by cracking the hi pressure line one at a time or just feeling the individual exh outlets if so equipped.

Got a filter @ Carquest today and changed. Looked like the one I took out. Clean bowl and good looking filter. 70 hours early but that’s ok.

Pretzeled my arm to reach third injector and bled there too. After 4 or 5 cranks, got it running. A bit better w a tiny bit of throttle response. However the fuel filter Body is leaking.

I’ll F with it more tomorrow in daylight.

Update:
Hauled it to a diesel shop today. They'll get to it before too long.

I had exhausted what I knew to do and will let experts fix it.

My diesel mechanicing is narrow, but its shallow.

Interested to know what they find.

Hope it's not too costly.

Gotten lulled having it always available. Want it back.

Low hours, 340, and been early on all maintenance.

Just a wild guess, but did you bleed all the lines or just a few? On my old 3 cyl Ford, when I run it our of fuel, I can get it started if I bleed just one line, but it runs rough and has no or very little throttle response. Bleed the other two lines, and I usually have to bleed the lines twice, and it will crank and run fine.

Moral of story- bleed all the lines 2 times.

3 cyl kubota (B2650). Bled through each one multiple times. Fresh fuel w/ ~2 oz. PS white in 7 gal tank. New fuel filter.

How old is the new fuel(from the jug)?

Maybe it sucking air?

Like you, it was over our machanic’ing skills.

I wanna say after trouble shooting, the shop replaced the rubber supply lines from tank. They have gummed up.

Jug filled 30 minutes prior from a high volume station.


It ran like a champ until it didn’t.

Hopingly I get it back this week.

In the winter (realize the temps are up) but starved for fuel and a slug of water may have worker its way to the injection pump, lines and injectors, and even using some PS to rack tankful, I used to give the tank a reasonable shot of 911. Almost sounds like fuel delivery issue, filter or air leak. Some are just more temperamental than others. I've gone out to my share of out of fuel calls, and always take PS, 911, a rag and air tank (use sparingly), and make sure every bit of air is out through the filters to the pump. Too late now, bit let us know, may save someone else a headache. Always fuel diesel equip at 1/4 tank as part of your preventative maint program, better save than sorry scenario. Your on the right track with PS or other additive for lubricity with today's fuels.

When I got my newer Chevy, I read up on diesel additives.Probably about 90%of the guys on here know more than I do. So don't take this as expert advice. There are emulsifiers and demulsifiers. .Emulsifiers keep the water in the fuel and let it pass out thru combustion chambers. Demulsifiers are meant to use filters to take the water out of the fuel. The Power Stroke is an emulsifier. Stanadyne is a demulsifier. My Owner's Manual said to use the Stanadyne type which lets less water thru the injectors into the combustion chambers. I use it in my Duramax and Kubota tractor.

IB, have you got your tractor back? If so, what was the problem?

Dread part:
Perhaps I have the China flu and lost my sense of smell, as I accidentally filled the tank with gasoline.

If a tanker of gasoline had been mistakenly delivered to the stations diesel tanks, it would have been news. Its one of the busiest stations on the KP.

Only explanation is that I took my yellow diesel jug, to put diesel in it for my diesel tractor, and had a major brain fart and filled the jug with gasoline. Did not smell it as gas even after getting it on my sleeve changing the fuel filter..

The shop drained the tank, put a couple gallons of diesel in and it started and ran fine. I've since used it several times with out a hiccup and have refueled.

Moral of the story: don't be a dumb ass.

my wife did that once on the pickup, but she realized what she had done when it sputtered and died.....

Had the semi gel up at 8 degrees last week. Of course, nobody in town had the fuel filters, so that was a 120 mile round trip. These extended service intervals on these new trucks are nice, but 30,000 miles on a fuel filter in winter....... you can expect trouble sooner or later. All progress is not forward progress.

Thanks. Been using it quite a bit since I got it back. Figure putting the right fuel through with injector lube is good for it.

While it was in the shop my ratchet rake showed up at the feed store. Got to use that roughing up the rain-polished ice in the driveway and everywhere else I plow snow.

In fact I did the same thing. Only it was a 1 ton dually diesel pickup.

Realized the brain fart after I'd put 1/2 a tank in....

It purely a PITA to drain that tank, and get it going again though. At least I didn't let any get to the engine. That would have been much worse.

That's the thing, Sam. On most things, my sense of smell is very enhanced (especially with foods )

I *should have* recognized it as soon as I started emptying the jug. Wish I had.

On a JD 2950, the fuel tank is right out front and the filler cap is next to the radiator cap. Putting antifreeze in the fuel tank plugs things up real quick...

Our new Casey's has several choices now for the gas pumps.

E-10 (Unleaded 87), E-15 (Unleaded 88), Unleaded 87 no ethanol, Premium 91, E-85. And Diesel too

It's best that I fuel our vehicles, my very intelligent (but blonde!) wife just can't get it right.

We've found that E-85 will run fine in an older non flex fuel Ford Taurus, but the O2 sensors don't like it and the check engine light comes on.

She hasn't tried Diesel yet AFAIK

Don't feel bad,I stopped at a station to fill my Dodge many years ago..Pulled the wrong lever and sent 25 gal of gas into the the tank before noticing it was gas and not diesel. Luckily there was a store close where I bought 5 gas cans and siphoned it all out before I even moved it .
I filled the chainsaw with diesel once too. That didn't turn out as cheap

My son once did the opposite...he filled up my gas mower with diesel fuel. Took a lot of tugging on the cord to get it started even after draining the tank and gas line.
