I've said it before also - Mule Deer is a heck of writer with a lot to share and does an excellent job entertaining and teaching in his writing. We are lucky to be living in his time.

I’ll echo what others have already said about our Mule Deer. We are extremely lucky to have this access to a professional enthusiast who tests so many rifles and handloads. I enjoy his writings immensely. I consider John somewhat of a national treasure.

I have been reading gun rags for the last sixty years. I consider JB to be among the top ten gun writers in the last sixty years.

Agreed. He's really a scientist....writes of empirical knowledge. With the panache of O'Connor, who also wrote of genuine experience.

Without Mule Deer, I don't think 24HCF would even exist. His articles in Sports Afield etc.are also excellent and informative, not just rehash of old stuff.

Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.

I grew up reading Keith, Jack, Askins, Whelen, Finn, Hagel, Jordan and a few others that have passed. Of the lot old Elmer influenced me the most, which is why the majority of my 55 years of hunting in Alaska have been done with a .338 Win. Mag. For the last 15 years I have been reading other writers more.

As I look back I honestly can say I have learned more technical information from John Barsness then all the others. He has spent time talking to labs, technicians, barrel makers, bullet makers, powder makers, ballistics folks, etc. He has combined that with actual hunting experience, in depth technical information, honest reviews and a personal style that shows in his writing. He is living his passion and from what I see and read he has a pretty cool gal sharing it all with him. That's the mark of a wise man. So heck ya, thanks Mule Deer for sharing it all and being approachable.

John Barsness advice and opinions are based on research. I appreciate that he so freely gives his advice here on the campfire.
