Recently acquired SMLE No.2 Mk IV. .22 long rifle, single shot. British Army training rifle manufactured in 1936. Full size as a regular SMLE No.1 Mk III service rifle, only in .22 rimfire not .303 British. The gun is designed to drop the empty cartridge case off the bolt head and down into the empty hollow Enfield magazine box. Pretty slick. Metal finish is original I believe. Stock was redone in its past, whether in a British arsenal or by a subsequent owner- who knows. Regardless, it's nicely done and I'm proud to be its custodian. Bore is beautiful and it shoots nicely. Initial backyard trial with Winchester Match CB Long's yielded 50 foot groups of 1/2", with the gun elbow rested on the deck rail, and with ammo that's not optimal. I hold high hopes for it with premo ammo off the bench at 50 yards. Stay tuned. Now the search begins for a Parker-Hale target sight that was a no-drill add on for SMLE's. And yes, I'm aware it's missing the brass stock disc. I have one coming.

That’s awesome and glad to hear it shoots/functions well. I’ve passed on a few and still look for one in decent condition to pounce on
She never made it past the bedroom door, what was she aiming for...? She's gone shootin..

Nice snag gnoahhh. I'll wait on the next installment concerning the way it shoots with proper ammo. Good luck and Be Well, RZ.

Those are neat and it appears you have found a really nice example.
I'm also a fan of these old military training rifles.
Thanks for sharing.

Nice, I like how you mentioned that you were the custodian not the owner 👍

That is very cool gnoahhh.....the military trainers are some of the neatest .22s out there and that is a beauty - I would not have hesitated on that one! I am interested in how it shoots for you at 50yds (sounds like it has good potential) so please keep us updated! I only have two trainers but both shoot as good as some of my best .22s - one is a Springfield M22 and the other is a Swiss K31.
