The one that surprises me is the somewhat low’ish BC on that 175 Sierra. I’d have guessed it would’ve been a bit more slippery. Not that .600+ is bad but I’d have thought it’d been higher.

The round is supposedly in its groove with 165’s at 2900 something, near 3000.

Rebated rim...
It's a 6.8 WSM.
Thank goodness for the Metric system, without it they'd have to call it the 270WSM 2.0.
The 6.8W case length looks to be 0.10" shorter than the 270WSM, but the OAL looks to be the same.
Pretty weird. I guess it might get you into long bullets w/o having to go to a mid length action. We should be expecting a 6.5Western, 30Western, 6Western, 7Western...
These probably won't feed out of a binderless AICS mag, but who knows.
With a name like "Western" they'll have to offer it in a lever gun— enter the Browning BLR chambered in 6.8 Western with a 2 round detachable magazine.
I'm not getting it.

I'm not getting it. They shortened the case so that 1) they could call it something different and not have to pay Jamison royalties on the WSM cartridges anymore, and 2) allow for seating of heavier bullets to fit in a standard mag box, which is the biggest downfall of the WSM cartridges.

I guess I’m missing something because it doesn’t make me wanna run out and get one. I’m sure it’s a good cartridge, just doesn’t do anything a lot of other cartridges do that I already own. I do applaud their ingenuity though.

It saves 4 oz of weight for the short action for those faint at heart. Hint: Eat fewer Quarter Pounders and not notice the increased rifle weight.
I’ll keep the 175 gr at 3,009 fps or 150 gr TTSX at 3,200 fps in my outdated 7mm Roy.

Our new local Fleet & Farm store opened with 1/3 of their shelves empty late last fall that's store wide with most stock now appearing. There gun dept had 50 % empty displays now down to 85-90 empty only ammo in the place yesterday was a case of the new 6.8 Western and there is not a gun so chambered in town. They build ammo for guns not availible but can't build enough ammo for guns availible and allready in the hands of the public. Am I the only [bleep] person in the world who thinks that a lot of 30 & 40 something marketing ass*oles would be more productive flipping burgers at a fast food dump? Mb

... Eat fewer Quarter Pounders ... That is heresy! I love that kind of Scottish cuisine.

Think it's a fine cartridge for the one rifle hunter who also wants to shoot over 400 yards.

It is actually a nicely balanced cartridge... if I were inclined to shooting knitting needles, I would definitely get one... particularly once the 7mm version is released (because I miss the 7mm WSM)... but as a hunter who "hunts," I am inclined to shoot reasonable bullet weights considering case capacity... like 150's in this one, in which case, there is no need for the fast twist, in which case, might aswell just shoot a .270.
