A number of them in 222 Rem, 22 Hornet and there are very accurate inserts for 22 Mag. Not many in 223 as some Euro countries do not allow the uses of military cartridges.

Things like 5.6x52R (22 Savage Highpower), 7x57R, 7x65R and 8x57R are relatively common and around $1./rd

I shoot combo guns in 12ga/5.6x50R Mag, brass is available from Huntingtons and it uses standard .224 bullets. Another in 12ga/5.6x52R(22 Sav. HP) brass is readily available at a number of places, S&B imports ammo and .228 bullets are available from Hornady, Buffalo Arms and a couple others. My drilling for coyotes(16ga/16ga/6.5x58R Sauer) is a little more complicated but brass is available from a couple places and I make mine from 9.3x72R brass. C&H has Reloading dies for just about anything.

Yes they are extremely handy for predator hunting.

Go through these There are a number of combo guns in 12ga/223 (FinnClassics) and drilling with 22 Hornet and 222 Rem chambers

My Finnish-made Savage Model 2400's rifle barrel is in .222 Remington.

It works fine for medium game like coyotes and javelina, or for small deer at close ranges. I haven't tried it yet with feral hogs, although some of my hunting buddies tell me it should do the job just fine ("IF you can shoot!).

The 2400 itself is incredibly accurate. But it isn't self-aiming....

This Savage 2400/Valmet 300 series in deluxe wood is in 12 ga and 308, pretty common, I'd say. grin

Luv2Safari & Mesa,

What do the Valmet's & Savage's weigh? Specifically the 12 over .222?

Are the 412 series barrels also interchangeable with the Valmet 300's and the Savage 2400's?

Are scope mounts available for these?

Thanks,

Jerry

Baikal (Russia) made a combo 12 gauge / 223. They occasionally show up on Gunbroker for reasonable prices. I had a 12 / 6.5 Swede Baikal for a while that was very accurate and overall an apparently well made rifle with nice wood, for the money. Sold that one and now have a 12/ 223 that is still NIB. My intent is to use it for turkey hunting where coyotes sometimes respond to my call.

These weigh about a pound less than the 412s. The barrels Do Not fit the 412-512 Valmets. They will fit the Lion and 300 series guns and the 2400 Savage. You can mount scopes using Sako dovetail adapter bases that fit the dovetail Sako integral base. Weaver makes a good set, so you have a Picatinny ring capable base. You can also find the original type Sako QD mounts for Sako at around $150.00 + or -.

These have the advantage of barrel adjustment/regulation, as these photos show.

I had one in 12ga 3" and 7X57R that I scoped. The triggers were awful, but with trigger discipline it shot 5 shots into 1.5" at 100 yards. Good quality airgun 13mm mount bases work on them.

Luv2Safari,

Thanks for the Info.

Is there any downside to getting the Valmet 300/Savage 2400 vs a newer Valmet... the 412, 512 or 612? I think(?) the 512 & 612's are made in Italy.

Thank You,

Jerry

The UPSIDE of a 300 is the double triggers, if you are used to them. Faster then any other "barrel selector," IMO. (What you DON'T want to do with a combo is unloose a .308 or .222 when you thought it was a load of 7 1/2s....Never done that. Yet.).

Yeah, that is an unsettling experience. The first time I shot at a Maine partridge with my new to me Schuler drilling, I couldn't understand how I missed -- until I realized I'd sent an 8mm slug his way. Fortunately, it was back in the deep woods where no harm was done.

The up side to the 300/2400 Valmets is cost. They are 1/2 the cost of the 412-612 guns. The down side is availability. They're getting harder to find. People who have them usually love them for "utility" grade quality combo guns.

The 2400 and 300 series guns went out of production with the advent of "The Valmet System", the 412. The 412 morphed into the Finn Classic 512, and now 612 with an aluminum frame and carbon-wrapped barrels. The big drawback of the 412 and 512 guns were excessive weight. The modern 612 solved that.

Luv2Safari,

Are the 612 "Finnclassics" good guns... as in have no issues and are well built?

Thanks again,

Jerry

I've heard nothing negative about the 612. I've never shot one, however.

You might get in touch with Russ Gould in TX.

He is a Finn Classic importer. I've dealt with him several times in the somewhat distant past. He's OK.

I'm not going to be selling here and doing the packing and shipping, suffering low-ballers, and dealing with buyer remorse or endless questions. That's all for the auction house to handle.
