I found this video today and it reminded me of the 308 win. discussion and unburned powder in shorter barrels. At about the 4:15-20 mark the slo mo video shows the shock wave and what is described as what could be "unburned" powder or crud from previous shots coming out of the barrel before the projectile does. Regardless, the whole video is interesting with respect to what goes on when bullets leave the muzzle of the barrel and at least IMO adds to the question about this unburned powder theory in short barrels vs long barrels.

BTW, check your unburned powder grains...often, they turn out to be grains of ash.
