158 RN best projectile?

I was looking at the 158 gr coated SWC from Missouri Bullet mentioned on another thread

That lip on the SWC might cause you some grief. I have an early Rossi 92 in.357and it doesn't like any SWC's .Even worse in a 38 sp case. I have 1000 of Missouri bullets ordered but the softer ones spec'd for 38 sp. They go in my handguns. Round nose flat point, or 158 Gr XTPs get fed in my Rossi.

Have a Rossi 92 in .357. Favorite .38 Special load is Hornady 158gn swaged lead round nosed cowboy bullet with 3.5gn of Bullseye. It's what the wife prefers to shoot. Mild load but a more satisfying thump than a .22. Perfect for empty bulk freon cans at 75 yds.

I might give them a shot, I can always use them in a revolver if they don't feed.

My Rossi M-92 loves those truncated cone bullets. I don't feed it RN FP bullets anymore, too many hiccups and jams. Jacketed bullets work well.

Colorado Cast bullets in Montrose CO makes TC bullets in 125 and 145 grains and they are VERY popular in the Cowboy guns.

A very smart friend with the same model Rossi told me early to ALWAYS make the ammo to an overall length of 1.550", whether you use 357 brass or a 38 Special case. Load appropriately for your intended shooting, To make my loading task easy I put the 125s in 38 Special brass (at 1.44") and use the 145s in either case in the M-92 at 1.55", easy to see what power level each round contains. A taper crimp (LEE 380 ACP) holds the bullet in place in the magazine tube (or my revolver cylinder).

If you don't want to wait 12-14 weeks for bullets from Missouri bullet co give Cimarron bullets a try. I have been using them and like them. They get them shipped out in about a week.

They can be individual to feeding certain COAL and bullet shapes. Then, most lever actions are the same. Ask which lever action model handles 38 special best on any day, you will get 10 different answers. Of all the 1892's( originals, browning, chiappa, miroku) Rossi will have the best chance of digesting different things due to changes they made to the original design. My rossi 92 fed anything, SWC, wide FN even wadcutters seated out to only 1.41" OAL. Some other shapes it would feed right down to 1.38". Less than that, they dont get picked up onto the lifter.
