I am in need of a buttplate for a 1950 336RC. Would it have come with one like this:

https://ebay.us/p2v39h

Also would it have come with the white spacer?

Thanks.

When I went looking for a butt plate for my 1958 336 SC I determined that there are a bunch of butt plates for the many different models of 336. Did you check out the butt plates made by NC Ordinance? They have printable sizing templates that can help you narrow your search. The butt plate for my SC (a close cousin to your RC) was not easy to find. My SC did come with a white spacer.

I'm looking there now but I can't find the templates, and they sound handy.

Little late for the party here perhaps. Below My 336A Rifle "G" series 1950 SN prefix. Original butt plate shown & looking just like the one in the ad! Of course such correct model doesn't necessarily guarantee 'fitment'! Also note there's a white spacer involved if you wish to retain the 'factory appearance'.
Good Luck!

Have a 1950 336SC and that’s the same butt plate.

chubman, Thanks for your input, but simply mistaken! The white line spacer was introduced by Marlin to the 336 Model in 1950. Below a lengthy multipage Thread in the Marlin Forum discussing the white line spacer. Reference (unnumbered) Post 12 on Thread Page 1. There, though intro-date not in controversy, matter of fact statement; 1950 date confirmation.

https://www.marlinowners.com/search/44895/?page=2&q=Marlin+white+line+spacers+introduced%3F&c[rankProfileName]=default&o=relevance

Also, below pix, a couple of my "all original" Marlins: "Rifle" dating from 1950 - serial prefix code "G" & "Regular Carbine" from 1951 - serial prefix code "H". Notably both wearing the white line spacers and original.

If you'd care to provide your information source reflecting a 1952 introduction, I'd surely be interested in exploring such contention.

Thanks kindly for the reference which I successfully dug out. My copy of Doug's great work, autographed! Don't recall where or when. And definite point to you chubman! Likely should be 'point set'.

But just my personal experience, the guns I've owned and the several I now own... All counter. I used to ping on those white spacers - lack of - as distinguishing such as the Model 36 from the vast majority of Model 336 at ten paces in racks. That as it took some time to accumulate my several postwar specimens:
Model 36 carbine, sporting carbine & rifle & then to improve my specimensl originality & condition. It was in those days, 'pre Murray' smile that I developed that habit and observation!
I suppose, the possibility of a sudden "white spacer craze" & retrofitting. But, doubt it! Based on his 'authority' which I do respect even in memorium, to yield. In my illustration above with butt plate, that's a "G" serial number rifle. I've also got two "H" RCs, both displaying "white".

Go figure!

Thanks iskra. The spacers do make them look sharper. I'm sure guy's figured out ways to do it back in the day. Sounds like you have quite a collection. The old JM's are getting valuable. Take care, Chub
