Trump flew the Q flag for a while because it pandered to some people who otherwise might not support him as strongly financially. Elections are expensive. The Q crowd collectively exhibit strong signs of apophenia, the tendency to connect dots that aren't really related. This is why one of my otherwise brilliant buddies believes in 'chem trail' nuttery. It's a common symptom of schizophrenia, but on it's own not diagnostic. Q plays on confirmation bias - coming up with conspiracies that a group of people would really want to believe.
