New to loading 9mm. I've been reloading rifle and pistol since about 1968. Just never tried the 9mm. My question is will the Small Pistol Magnum primers work OK? pistol being used is a SIG 365 striker fire. I will be using HS-6 powder and variety of bullets (cast, jacketed HP's, etc.).
I was told by one gentleman that Mag primers can be a problem with striker fired autos. My problem is with the primer shortage, the Mag primers are about all I have.

Start low and work up you will be fine. Light firing pin strikes could be possible.

I ran that drill yesterday just to satisfy my own curiosity I used mag primers with HS6, AA 5 and 7 and 7625. With both cast and jacketed bullits in 117 and 124 grain. All 40 of them went bang just fine and they shot fairly well also. I did reduce the powder charge a bit but no ill effects yet.

I had just about to decide to back off powder charge by about .2-.3 grains and try a few. Thanks for the reply.

As long as the striker hits hard enough to ignite the primer you are golden. Since you are just starting out, you should do the back-off-and-work-up routine anyway.

How's the turkey crop looking this year?

This is cross-posted on the handgun forum.

Here is a recent video put out by Super Vel Ammunition where they pressure tested and chronographed CCI small pistol, small pistol magnum and small pistol rifle primers in 9mm. The conclusion was that there is no difference. They also indicated that they function fine in most stock production guns.

Thanks to the OP for this topic, loaded up some fed 205's with 5.7 grs of power pistol behind a 124 HST all rds lit with no issues couldn't tell any difference between the 205's and CCI500's these were fired from a Glock 17 with a Johnny glock competition trigger with a lighter striker spring I didn't run them by the radar but will in the future!

I've loaded and shot thousands of CCI400's in 9mm, couldn't see any difference between them and CCI500.
I might be trying some older plated WIN SR later if the prices don't come down some.
