What one do y'all like best?

P-38, P-51 or the Colman?

Can't seem to buy a GOOD hand crank can opener anymore.

They're mostly made in China!...JUNK!

Thanks!

OXO smooth edge opener. It cuts below the rim, not the lid. They're priced higher than the lid cutting kind but they sure work. It's probably bigger than you'd want for backpacking, though. It's great for home or camper.

I like the OXO a lot for in camp or to make boiling cans to fit over Gatorade bottles.

I carry mostly p-38's for the field. They don't seem to rust as soon as the others.

Yeah, that one looks good for backpacking.

What brand chain saw do you bring?

Stihl baby.

If you want a can opener to backpack why not hunt one of these down?

That was kind of my thought, too. I haven't carried cans backpacking since they replaced C-rations with MRE's.

Don't need a can opener for back packing, just something that takes up less space when tent camping.

Don't do pack in hunting.

And, something that WORKS!

Thanks!

That OXO photo I posted - it will work great once you learn how to use it. Some people seem to have a hard time at 1st because it's a little different to use. I you get one, it'll likely soon end up in your kitchen.

I agree. Cans are for car camping and I also agree with LightningHopkins, a Swiss Army knife seems to work best .

I don't use MREs either. They are too heavy. I use mostly Mountain House.

The best use of MRE's is when I'm packing with my llamas. When I talk backpacking, that's usually what I'm talking about. I'm too old to carry that much weight on my back anymore.

Sorry guys!

I posted this on back packing, should have been the cooking section.

Got some good replies here, and have it in the cooking section now..

Thanks! Virgil B.
