Fled to kona for a few weeks. Anybody got a charter recommendation? I would especially like to find something like a big center console vs a sports fisher, and something that would a bit more hands on, since I run my own boat and fish Bluewater a bit myself, but mostly just looking for a good captain.

I caught a striped marlin on the "Bite Me II" but it's a 46 foot Hatteras iirc.

I am the 'hands-on' charter guy.

Fished with Jeff years ago. Had a great time doing some bottom fishing. Have also fished with Bite Me and have had great success. Multiple blues in excess of 500lbs. and always lots of Mahi Mahi, Ahi, Spearfish, etc.

I fished there in 1988, i charted a 32’ Blackfin called Bandit, but i dont remember the captains name.
He was in the slip next to a 31 Bertram called Sundowner owned by Capt Norm Issacs who became somewhat famous doing fishing shows.
Also there at that time was Bart Miller, who owned a beautifull Merrit named the Black Bart and was probably the best known in Kona at that time. He later sold the boat and moved here to Florida and started making the Black Bart line of lures. I have pictures of the Black Bart tied to a mooring in the harbor.
I caught a 67# stripe on one of the 2 live Skipjack we were dragging around tethered to 130 bent butt outfits.
Also got 2 jumps from a small blue before it shook the hook.
I mentioned to the captain that i would rather have caught the stripey on a heavy spinning outfit like is used here on Sailfish. He just nodded and smiled, then said but what if it was a 500 pounder that swam up and ate that bait. lol
