They’re out there. Ran into one at the grocery store on Saturday. Bill was $18.18. Handed her a $20. She started ringing up and I said here...I have two dimes.
You would have thought I had asked her to solve a calculus equation. Fifteen minutes later with the help of management...I finally got out of there with my $2.02 in change. 😖 So, you’re one of those guys, huh? Question is, were you trying to avoid a pocketful of coins, or hoping for a little fun? Someone stuck working a register might already be at the peak of their capabilities. Show some mercy. It pains me when I see them stuck having to wear those accursed masks all day. When I'm going for a reduction in the number of coins I'm carrying I make sure to hand the cashier the twenty and the two dimes (for this example) all together so they'll have a fighting chance of typing in $20.20 and have the register do the thinking.

You should have seen what happened during the first year for freshmen who signed up for engineering. They took the same calculus and physics courses as the math and physics majors. At my university the physics department was relatively small so the largest part of the audience in the general physics classes was made up of wannabe engineering majors. I suspect it rankled the physics profs to have to spend so much of their time on such plebeians. On top of that it was a not so well hidden secret that the College of Engineering gave Physics the green light to help the engineering underclassmen figure out if they reeeally wanted to continue in engineering. I was a somewhat rare bird in that I passed the general physics courses with A grades on the first try. After that they tried to recruit me.
