Anybody here ever been exposed to rabies and had to go through the treatment protocol?

Use to hear about it being a couple dozen shots in the stomach, but that was when I was a kid. Have no idea if that was accurate, but apparently now its a 4 shot sequence?

Never known anyone that has gone through it.

Anybody here?

I’ve been vaccinated for rabies. 2 shots, 6 months apart.

But that’s differenter.

I’ve not been exposed myself, but I’ve given rabies post-exposure prophylaxis many times in the ER over the years. We give HRIG (human rabies immune globulin) on day one (and only once), and we infiltrate in and around the wound as much as we can. It’s actually quite a bit (volume wise) for an adult. The rest we administer IM. We also give rabies vaccine on days one, three, seven, and fourteen. The vaccine is a piece of cake, as each one is just 1cc IM. But the immune globulin involves a buncha shots.

I hear that the rabies vaccines have nanobots that allow rabid dogs to take over your mind.

A woman who just had to take her kids to the ER or health department for every little skinned knee or sniffle, went to the S.W. PA heaalth department one day. Her one child had two small inflamed bumps on his neck resembling mosquito bites.
The health department dutifully insisted that both children get vaccinated for rabies IMMEDIATELY.....

Why???

When I was about 10 years old. Shots in the stomach. Not much fun. Of course that was 50 years ago.

One time this city government guy from Tyler, Texas went over to Africa with a group from the city...it was some kinda goodwill sister city kinda thing...anyway, they were eating at a restaurant outdoors over there and a monkey ran up to the guy and bit him on the thigh, then ran back into the jungle. Dude had to come in and get rabies post-exposure prophylaxis as soon as he got back.
I schit you not.

Yep. And though a bat looks kind a like a rodent, they are actually a mammal.

One of my buddies that went on African Safari said the most fun animal to hunt there were Baboons. By far.

Had post-exposure treatment last spring. One shot in the thigh and 4 in the shoulder weekly for a month. Crazy expensive too.

my buddies wife grabbed a coon by the tail that was ripping into her little dog on the porch and the coon latched onto her arm and wouldn't let go. my buddy smacked it with something until it let go. makes me cringe to think about it. she had to get rabies shots but pretty sure they were all in her arm. i do remember she said there was a bunch. and she got a nasty scar from it.
