Been looking at and watching vids on tips and ways to use this on plastic and metals.
Hoping it gets up around 60° today.
Supposed ta give a wrinkled/ pebbled texture.

Black gonna be the base color.
A camo pattern will get layed down on top of it.
Still contemplating what design/ type of camo.

Turned in the receiver and barrel yesterday for graphite black cerracoating.


Hitting it with a heat gun some seems to be a technique common across the board with metal and plastic applications to get a better intial wrinkle to it that you can see rather than waiting for several hours for it to happen.
Mistakes if they happen seem to be easily corrected per vids I have been watching.

Let it set for 24 hrs afterwards then cook it in the oven at 200° for 60 mins to fully cure.

Something new to me and different rather than regular camo spray paint jobs.
Might be a good approach.
All the google fu stuff I have been looking at concerning spray painting gun stocks.
I have seen nothing about using this type of spray paint on a syn stock.
Can always change it after turkey season if it dont suit me or seems a better job can be done.

I was going to buy some from Brownells.

I suppose cheaper is better.

I would powder coat and bake at 400 for three hours.

Always thought spray on bed liner would be the ticket.

I used the old camo bow paint that used to be on the market. Clean it good with alcohol and spray It down good. If I wanted to get fancy I would use leafs or ferns for makeshift templates. Still don’t look to bad after many years.

Thought and looked at alot of types yesterday.

A texture similar to this would be GTG as the base.

It turns out slightly different how each person lays it down.

I probably will practice with a peice of plastic and the heat gun beforehand.
Might be a good idea.....

Get some green, brown, and tan krylon for the camo over spray.

See what happens in my mind for a camo scheme.

I might just leave it all black too.
Have ta see what it looks like reassembled 1st, then mull over a camo job or not.

I hope all that is going on the Mossberg.

krylon marbleizing spray does a great texture, like you see on the nicer aftermarket stocks. I've even done it under the top coat colors and had the texture come through. Looks and feels great.

Nice, no slipping hands, do the metal too and it can look like a Browning A-Bolt

Best I’ve used has been epoxy paints and Alumahyde from brownels.

Never specifically tried vht but other rattle can laquer or enamels have been pretty poor for wear resistance and solvent resistance. Even when baked on they are pretty poor.
Guess that’s why we have all the high end coatings. That folks still complain about not being tough enough.

The issue I see with that wrinkle stuff on plastic will be the pain in removing or smoothing out when trying to repair later on.

I'm really inexperienced and basically a neophyte at stuff like this.

I'm just going to have to see for myself what happens and how it turns out.
And its durability this spring.
I only go out turkey hunting 2 or 3 times a year.....
Kinda inexperienced at turkey hunting also.

So it should hold up pretty good I'm thinking for my use I hope.


No biggie to get it off with a solvent and some elbow grease if needed after turkey season.

while I know there are better options, that krylon fusion is some pretty good stuff, we've been using it ever since it came out on plastic stocks and metal and no durability issues. I have dipped guns that look worse than my krylon fusion painted guns. If everything is degreased and prepped right, you are gonna have to make an effort to ruin it.

It’ll be fine. Best thing is you can change it easily if not satisfied.

I have an old 10/22 that was my coon hunting rifle. After my knees took a schitt on me I wiped it down with thinner and used the krylon flat camo paint on it to cover up the ugly. Looks pretty cool,it's fairly durable and is easily fixed if it does happen to chip off.

Prep is 90% of any type of refinishing job for sure.

One of these days, I'll be rich and famous like you and will be able to retire. Right now I still work all day, but I fart around on the internet when I'm on hold or in a Zoom meeting. Hope to spend a lot more time goofing around with projects like this when I'm 'tahred.

Post up pics when you're done please. I'm still working on my two projects, but it's been too cool and damp to spray them out in the shop. Might have to wait until the wife is at church and do it in the house.
