I bought a jug of this powder sometime back, and am about to start using it.
Does it require a magnum primer, or are standard primers OK?
(I'm sure this has been dealt with, but I can't find the answer)

If you're loading for an AR use mag primers. If for a bolt gun try either and use what works best. Some find that mag primers work best with dense loads of ball powder.

I've burned enough to load a couple thousand or more 223 cases with it...
I've just used standard small rifle primers... S & B, CCI , Winchester & Federal..
no problem and accuracy was fine.... minute of sage rat out to 200yds all day long...

Same as the feller above me, I just use Fed 205's.
I tried several different primers to try and get to like it better in 223's, same results. With heavier bullets it's an ok powder for me. In 17 Rem I use 71/2's only.
I would have got him too but a Dad Blam snow flake hit me in da eye....

Ditto. I've burned my way through 5 or 6 pounds of it with just standard primers. Sub-MOA in an AR .223, and sub-1/2MOA in a Browning single shot .223, not to mention a bunch of other cartridges I found to like that powder. (I've become particularly fond of it in .250-3000 Savage.)

I'm on my second 8#er. all lit off with small rifle primers. Used mostly in 3 204R's. Great accuracy. good speed

I've been seeing more of this powder on the shelves. Just a heads up for guys on the lookout for this powder. I'm going to give it a whirl in my 6x45. I believe I saw some load data for that powder in that cartridge. I am going to use a CCI 400, as it has never been necessary to use a magnum primer in any of my ar's. Yes the cup is thicker on the magnum primers, but it is not necessary. I've loaded 1,000's with regular ol BR4's as well and that is not a magnum primer. Another heads up is I have been seeing more 69gr sierra matchkings as well, and at their usual price. I believe the CFE 223 powder was $26.xx/pound. That was at my local Wally world.. They also had 22lr, so things are starting to look up.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

It's a great compact, easy metering powder, that gives great velocity and accuracy plenty good enough for SD work, recently was gifted 1000 primed Lake City brass cases, bought enough 62gr Trophy Bonded Bearclaws and 64gr Nosler bonded bullets for all the brass, just a few test rounds through the chrono had the 7 twist 16" mid-length PSA piling brass in a neat pile 5ft off my right shoulder, velocity averaged 2768 fps, imho, more than enough for Wifes house guns, i'd even borrow one with an Eo-Tech 556 sight on it and pop a pig in the brush.

It pays to stop in there every once in a while.

I have 4 lbs of it I bought right after it came out . Tried and tried , but just could not find the right combo to make it useful in my AR.
BUT...I found a load right off the bat for my 6 Ceedmoor shooting 75 gr Speer hollow points out of Star Line small primer brass.
I use Remington 7 1/2s to get it going. Can't wait to get to a prairie dog town with this rig.
