Some flurries about, but Phil saw his shadow. Six more weeks of winter, but OK as I still have lots of firewood.

1minute: The temperature here in SW Montana today is supposed to attain 46 degrees - and its 38 degrees already this morning!
That 46 degrees is about 16 degrees ABOVE normal and our snow-pack is at only 79% of normal for this date!
Punxsutawney Phil better get rockin if "winter" is supposed to carry on for 6 more weeks.
Cool picture of the Rock Chuck though.

Sees shadow: six more weeks of winter

Does not see shadow: another month and a half of winter

Whether the whistle pig saw its shadow or not, we have 10 more weeks of winter ahead of us. I'm not complaining though, I love winter. It will be hazy, hot and humid soon enough! Then I'll complain.

He sure as hell didn't see it here. It's been dark, gray and snowing steadily since yesterday morning.

Don't trust Phil. He don't know beans about the weather. He's still in hibernation and pretty groggy when they drag him out for the tourists and cameras. If he wasn't surrounded by all those people I'd send a 55 grain ballistic tip his way if I was in the neighborhood.

Winter for 6 more weeks is great compared to being killed by Blasio...

Lets trust the prognostication to a burrowing rodent. One we pull out of the ground.

Yep, I wonder who thought up that one. crazy

Punxsutawney, PA. Is over 700 miles east of here and given what is happening over on the East Coast right now compared to here, we don’t put much stock in Phil’s prognostic powers. No, Jimmy The Groundhog is one of the few remaining groundhogs left in the state and Sun Prairie where Jimmy lives is only 125 miles from here and he didn’t see anything this morning. I’ve got green grass showing in my back yard today, so I’m going with Jimmy’s forecast instead.

IIRC, I read that Phil’s wrong 62% of the time!
But hey, it puts Punxsutawney on the map! Whatever.

I used to go up there when I was younger. Go to the bars in town until they close at 2:00. Then go tailgate up on the knob until the groundhog comes out in the morning. Not a bad time when you’re young enough to do it. It’s like the redneck version of Times Square on New Years Eve except you can piss in the woods and there aren’t any groids or phags.
